SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Jerry Brown took a strong stand against coal on Friday, approving an East Bay lawmaker's bill to ban state funding for coal-related projects.

In signing state Sen. Loni Hancock's bill, the governor also praised the Oakland City Council for voting to ban transportation of the ore through its city and encouraged other cities to do the same.

"Other localities should follow suit -- and the state should, too -- to reduce and, ultimately, eliminate the shipment of coal through all California ports, Brown wrote in a signing message.

There are some coal-fired plants in Nevada and New Mexico, as well as Arizona. I think there’s even one in Utah. Your point is well taken.

They are putting restrictions on export coal brought in from other states. Oakland is a port of call city on the San Franciscan bay. A clear violation of our freedom of interstate commerce laws.

Almost every law California passes needs to be challenged in court. Most, if not all, violate some Federal law or restrict some Constitutional right/freedom.

The California Republican Party (RINOs all) bargained away the state for a few “safe” Republican seats. It has been a one party state since the late 1980s early 1990s. Overrun with foreign invaders (illegals of nearly every stripe) the state government needs to be overthrown. Its a fight I won’t be running from even as my fellow conservatives flee to other states after giving up hope of ever recovering our beloved state.

Just deporting the illegals would do much to clean up this state. I’ll wager over 25% of the state is illegal.

He can’t have coal in his stocking. A sack of dog poop will have to suffice.

We used to have a coal-fired electric plant in the tiny town of Advance here on Lake Charlevoix years ago. Freighters laden with coal would come through the extremely narrow Pine River Channel to go through our bascule drawbridge late at night. The rare event would empty the bars around here. would shut down U. S. 31 for hours as emergency and fire trucks would stand by for unlikely occurences. The freighter would have no more than about six feet in between the sides as it made it’s way through our channel. So, I know quite a bit about transporting coal through cities on the way to generating plants. Next time, I’ll tell you about Big Rock Point Nuclear generating plant on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan, constructed in the 1960’s.

We gave up and fled SoCal last year. We’re happily ensconced in E Tennessee now.

Congratulations. Fled the SF Bay Area 15 years ago to upstate SC. What a relief.

But there were coal fired electrical plants supplying California from across the borders of neighboring states. The utilities within California were forced to divest from partnerships located cross-border and sharing the electrical output with PL&G and SCE.

Average of 6% lost on transmission of electricity cross-country.

Perhaps it is time for California to make it’s own electrical grid completely separate from the rest of the states, much like ERCOT in Texas.

That way California can live on what they produce with just wind and solar.

Isn’t that pretty much what governments do everywhere? Yes, California’s is more prodigious in its stupidity but what else does government in this country do but ban more activities and raise more taxes? Other than legalizing gay marriage, unisex bathrooms, and marijuana use I can’t think of much governments do today other than raise taxes and outlaw stuff that used to be legal, or regulate things that used to be left alone.

True. And, I don’t mind proclaiming that in 1966 my
fellow 15 year old buddy and I stuck Reagan for governor
bumper stickers all over the storefront windows of the
local Dem’rat campaign office.

"Idiot."

I don't think the man is an idiot... I believe he is a American hating commie piece of crap, just like he was back in the 60's and he needs to be treated as such by all who love their country...

Give that man NO respect when ever and where ever you come across his path.....
