I created the burkini to give women freedom, not to take it away
UK Guardian ^ | August 24, 2016 | Aheda Zanetti

When I invented the burkini in early 2004, it was to give women freedom, not to take it away. My niece wanted to play netball but it was a bit of a struggle to get her in the team – she was wearing a hijab. My sister had to fight for her daughter to play, had to debate the issue and ask, why is this girl prevented from playing netball because of her modesty?

I actually bring the long cushion from my balcony chair to the beach to lie on because the sand is lumpy. LoL!

I purchased cigs in NJ this morning. The clerk told me women don’t smoke in “his” country. My head exploded.

Ditto. Added to that is their archaic submission to their men who are depraved.

Yup. I was watching an episode of that cooking show Chopped and they had a muslim teenager as a contestant. When they went to her home and filmed, the mother was wearing an entire black burka - head to foot - including long black gloves. This in Brooklyn, NY, USA. I wanted to smash the tv set!

Unsanitary, unhealthy, ugly and inhumane. (islam as well as the burka. I refuse to capitalize that word.)

My reply would have been along the lines of “Thank God I’m not in your ‘country’!”

( a double entendre ;’}

I bring it to the park too. I am using it now propping me up in bed.

Might as well wear a wet suit.

It is only freedom if the woman wants to take the risk of drowning from the weight of a wet cloth garbage bag dragging her down-doing it because some man tells her she has to is beyond stupid-I think the things should be banned from the beach as a drowning hazard-that would take care of the problem-no profiling, just a safety issue ...

Some nuns from the more strict orders still wear a full habit-but they don’t go swimming at a public beach in one...

I don’t have one bit of problem with having Islamics follow their religious rules, but not on the public dime.

Like the Italians and Irish Catholics, the Conservative Jews, the Amish and other groups who have had proscribed life rituals, ALL WHO BUILT THEIR OWN SCHOOLS RECREATION CENTERS AND COMMUNITIES, and had good lives within them.

netball is just basketball played outside on a cement court...

I played this sport in New Zealand all the way through school from age 7 ...

we didn’t wear a burka and we were modest...

the author wanted his/her daughter to be modest but they also wanted the burka OFF ???

seems that this person is a voyeur...

It's not about modesty. It's about fear. Plenty of Muslims don't wear the hijab. It is NOT required.

Men can have 4 wives as young as 8. Please....

BTW netball or basketball which is just netball without a net under the goal ring, cannot be played in a burka...

theres a whole lot of jumping and running involved and that long burka would be dangerous...how about tripping and ending up on the head inside that burka ???

The bare minimum is that a woman should show her face. Without that, there is no way of communication, making friends, or integrating with society in any shape or form. If a woman has to hide her face, she’s essentially in a prison where people can’t even understand her moods or how she feels as her facial expressions are hidden.

The next step is wearing a black burkha in the summer. Are Muslims really telling us that women CHOSE to almost suffocate?

If Aheda Zanetti thinks swimming in a burquini is great, she should try skinny dipping!

It’s because the males who practice that “religion” are given license to assault women who aren’t covered to their standard.

You want to liberate them, give them guns.
