Emails released on Monday show that Hillary Clinton’s top State Department aide, Huma Abedin, left classified government information that needed to be burned in the front seat of her vehicle.
“Favor” is the subject of Abedin’s July 20, 2009 email to Lauren Jiloty, Clinton’s personal assistant. Judicial Watch obtained the records and hundreds more pages of Abedin emails as part of its ongoing Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the State Department.
“I’m going to have ambassador ride on next drive,” wrote Abedin. “There’s a bunch of burn stuff in the pocket of my front seat.”
And seemingly realizing the significance of her error, Abedin asked Jiloty to move the documents to a more secure location.
“Can u put in trunk?” she asked.
Jiloty told Abedin she would.
The State Department’s Foreign Affairs Manual provides rules related to the burning of agency materials and records. The manual states that only classified material should be burned. It reads:
Burn bags must contain only the classified material that is to be destroyed. Personal documents, trash, recyclable materials, metal objects (such as binder clips and acco fasteners), string, twine, spiral bindings, cleaning cloths, food, or any other object that is not classified material should not be placed in a burn bag.

To transport classified documents out of a building into the public most always requires a courier letter authorization. If you were to follow regulations in NISPOM overseen by DSS or other agency, it would required the courier card and letter and double wrapped with no classification markings on it IIRC.
But normally the bag shouldn’t be taken out of the building at all. Is that correct?

What is going on here is simply beyond the pale. It is outrageous. Abedin should be fired and in jail for this.
Thought it maybe went the other way, she was working on classified stuff at home (which is a big no-no for regular people) and brought some of it back to work to be destroyed. But then why ask for it to be put in the trunk (also a big non-no, that is not secure) instead of brought into building to be burnt?
Maybe she just left it in her car for her crazy anti-american family to photocopy and forgot about it.
I agree totally; and that is what is so frustrating for me. Also frustrating is that many many people know what Clinton has done and will vote for her.
What is wrong with our country
I worked around classified material for 33 years. Typically, it stays in a building unless it’s destruction time. You bundle it up in boxes or brown-paper bags (heavily marked), and then you go to the shredder in the building, on the post, or in the region.
In Panama, we had a burn ‘stove’....out-door situation where you walked up and cranked up the gas system and the fire started, then we threw the bags in...opened a beer or two...and stood there for an hour while the bags all burned down.
In the Pentagon, we had a team which would collect all the bags once a month and trolly them to the ramp where they’d be loaded on a truck and driven to some central burn building in the Arlington region.
In this case....she has one single bag or packet. Why only one? The only thing I can think of is that she was at Hillary’s residence in DC and she kept a safe there with some materials. Maybe she was cleaning out the safe for Hillary.
I dont think humanweiner was stealing classified information to take home and burn, do you?

Not always jail time. My friend was a long term intel analyst with the DIA. On being transferred from DC to MacDill because his expertise was the Stans he inadvertantly packed two confidential memos in his office paperwork. On arriving and unpacking at MacDill he saw the memos, called his superior and turned the docs over. He was suspended indefinitely andbecame the subject of a full investigation. It was six months before he redeived his security clearances back.
Burning stuff? Seriously? Shredders are in. Government would close down any business that still burned its’ important papers.
I read it differently....I read that email as she has a bunch if classified material that should placed in the burn bag but she left it in her car unsecured.
We need another Constitutional amendment. When it becomes evident of foreign influence, the military should immediately arrest and give trial. Obviously 3 checks and balances are not adequate.

During my retirement tour in what was then known as Denied Area, we used a 007 shredder. It was about the size of a small washing machine into which documents were fed and they came out as confetti. Just to confuse anyone who might be going through our garbage, we emptied our trash - cold coffee, apple cores, mango pits, etc. The enemy could have been trying for the last 20 years to put one document together and still be drooling over that pile of papier mache.

Nothing like ferrying ambassadors around in Huma’s car as opposed to, say, an official vehicle. Must have needed to hit the ambassador up for some really big bucks.
And I thought Human blew off the opsec handling briefings...how’d she know it was burn material? Who taught her that?

For all the people who respond to this or other threads with ‘who cares’ and so forth, I wish they would just go to a thread that they care about. Frankly, this story interests me for the very reason in which you responded.
