Bahrain’s Prince Got Audience With Clinton After Donating $32 Million To Her Foundation

Newly released Department of State documents reveal that the Crown Prince of Bahrain was given an audience with then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after he donated $32 million to her foundation.

The documents, released Monday by Judicial Watch, included emails between Clinton Foundation executive Doug Band and former Clinton State Department aide Huma Abedin, which appear to show that Abedin acted as a middleman between Clinton and her foundation’s donors.

Band and Abedin’s email exchanges show that Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman had to go through the Clinton Foundation in order to set up a meeting with Clinton after the former Secretary of State declined to meet after official requests were made.

Salman was a major donor to the Clinton Foundation, having pledged millions to the Clinton Global Initiative through the Crown Prince’s International Scholarship Program (CRISP). By 2010, he had given $32 million to the initiative. Additionally, the Kingdom of Bahrain is reported to have given between $50,000 and $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation, while Bahrain Petroleum gave $25,000 to $50,000.

Former President Bill Clinton received $5.6 million in fees from a Dubai-based firm that teaches Sharia law through a network of more than 100 schools worldwide.

Clinton served as the honorary chairman of the company GEMS Education from 2011 to 2014, the Daily Caller reported this week, citing Clinton’s federal tax returns.

GEMS Education teaches Sharia law in over 100 schools around the world, including in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. One of the company’s schools, located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, taught 1,600 students in 2013. Saudi Arabia is known for enforcing Wahhabism, a fundamentalist view of Islam that strictly adheres to Sharia law.

Sharia law is an Islamic legal system that many in the West believe violates human rights and represses women and various minority groups.

Clinton’s biggest single paycheck from GEMS Education was a $2.1 million sum from 2014.

The Clinton Foundation also received millions of dollars from the company, accumulating between $1 million and $5 million total. The parent company of GEMS Education, the Varkey Foundation, contributed between $250,000 and $500,000. In 2013 and 2014, GEMS Education was an official sponsor of the Clinton Global Initiative, a part of the Clinton Foundation.

As a presidential candidate, the amount of foreign cash the Clintons have amassed from the Persian Gulf states is “simply unprecedented,” says national security analyst Patrick Poole.

Overall, the Clinton Foundation has received upwards of $85 million in donations from five Persian Gulf states and their monarchs, according to the foundation’s website.

This Clinton stuff isn't remotely amusing - this election comes down to whether we continue to clunk along as a dysfunctional yet still somewhat accountable democracy, or we promptly complete the transition into a corrupt authoritarian banana republic.

I'm thinking that's why they started that pledge nonsense the other day about stopping donations for the "foundation" if Hilly becomes president - they knew the info was coming out and they were trying to get in front of it.
