Hospitals are to cancel thousands of operations and appointments in a desperate bid to stop the NHS "buckling" this winter, under Government plans. Pffft. I’m from kanadastan. You haven’t seen anything yet. My canadian Gf is with me and she was a nurse there. Where on earth can a homeless person beg a the clerk and security at a hospital for help when their reply is “did you pay your monthly premiums?” In AMERICA, the guy could have easily sued the hospital.

My uncle had 3 arteries 90% blocked and one 75%, it took 4 months to get appointment for Bypass surgery.
No such premiums in Alberta yet. I’m sure it’s coming.
Health care in Canada is still terrible though. It’s good if you want shorter life expectancy or if you want to be 38% more likely to die from cancer than in the US.
On the plus side, it’s all free. (sarcasm intended).

A year or two ago I started to research,out of curiosity,Canada's health care system.Having been an administrator at a major Boston hospital I have a pretty fair knowledge of *our* system but knew little about Canada's
One thing I learned is that in Manitoba,according to Winnipeg's newspaper,only 59% of those needing a hip replacement in the province get one with 6 months of it having been determined that one is required.That figure,according to the article,was from government sources.Here in the US it's unusual to wait even 2 weeks (I got mine in 6 business days).
Then,I signed onto British Columbia's official healthcare website and found that there's at least one type of heart surgery where patients can expect to wait up to 6 months.Here in the US "non-urgent" heart surgery is usually done the next day (as was the case with my 30 year old niece last year).
But,in its defense Canada's system allows *everyone* to get the same inadequate care delivered months after it should have been delivered.
I’ve always been fortunate, I’ve been healthy and if I need something I don’t take no for an answer. I let them know how much this “free” system costs me, and force it one way or another.
They have the same scam going on in Sask where I’m originally from. But nothing beats the crap coming from BC.
