~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort Knox, Kentucky

Fort Knox is a United States Army post in Kentucky south of Louisville and north of Elizabethtown. The 109,000 acre base covers parts of Bullitt, Hardin, and Meade counties. It currently holds the Army human resources Center of Excellence to include the Army Human Resources Command, United States Army Cadet Command and the United States Army Accessions Command.

The most recent era of transformation at Fort Knox began in 2005 with the recommendations of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. The Armor Center and School relocated to Fort Benning to merge with the Infantry Center and form the Maneuver Center of Excellence. In addition, the Armor School relocated to Fort Benning and, as with the Infantry School, is subordinate to the MCoE.

Relocated to Fort Knox were the Human Resources Command, Army Accessions Command and Cadet Command to join Recruiting Command information of the Human Resource Center of Excellence.

In May 2010, The Human Resource Center of Excellence, the largest office building in the state, opened at Fort Knox. The new center employs nearly 4,300 soldiers and civilians.

Fort Knox is one of only three Army posts (the others being Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Fort Sam Houston, Texas) that still have a high school located on-post. Fort Knox High School, serving grades 9–12, was built in 1958 and has undergone only a handful of renovations since then.

The Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor was established in 1949 to preserve historical artifacts and archival materials relating to Mechanized Cavalry and Armor and General George S. Patton Jr.   It is one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of armored vehicles spanning 1917 to the present and has the finest collection of Patton artifacts in the world.

There are static displays of various tanks, other armor and a few helicopters. The museum also includes a number of Patton's personal effects, dating from the World War II, including his office van and touring car.

You’ll be talkin’ til you’re blue in the face. LOL!
That Tennessee gal is one who won’t ever go to FB. Even her dad couldn’t talk her into it.

She’s more of an email warrior. :-)

We sure do! The good part about FB is that you do choose who you hang around with. And I chose you! :)

Or was it the other way ‘round. LOL!

It is time consuming though. AND there are no #50s to grab. :)

I originally joined FB to look up old Army buddies and have been successful in finding guys I haven't talked to in 45+ years!

Also nice to find old High School friends too.

I've had several old high school friends reply to me to say they thought I was killed in Vietnam.

I gave the Mark Twain reply: "The reports of my death has been greatly exaggerated!" LOL!

Very cool that you have been able to hook up with your old buddies!

I have seen and friended some of my high school friends, but they aren’t very active. I think I know more FReepers than anything.

And Mafia Wars friends. I finally quit playing and now they have shut the game down; but most of the people didn’t drop me when I said they could if they wanted to. They must be a glutton for punishment of the political kind. LOL!

I know there are a lot of people who like the site for all kinds of reasons but I’ve just never had the desire.

Well, everyone has their own boundaries. And time to pursue them. :)

It took me a long time to take the plunge. When I first checked it out I thought “how boring”. But then I started finding posts I agreed with and stuff happened. LOL! Also, there are eagle pages there and I learn stuff that I wouldn’t just on the chat forum. Lots of pictures posted.

There are a few good FRiends who I only talk to on there because it’s easier to chat via their message system when on the go and no laptop handy.

True dat, and FB is beyond my boundaries. :-)

Have just not been interested in any of the social media sites - FB, Twitter, etc. FR’s the only site I’ve ever signed up on.

Please tell me that there are sane people here tonight...I have been doing battle with the not so sane for 20 minutes. To every question the answer was the same. YOU DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT PLUGGING IN YOUR WHEELCHAIR. I check it every night and plug it in if needed. The plug is under the arm and has three male pins that fit into a three hole receptacle. It takes some rotating by me, as you cannot see what you are doing. 50 questions, all with the same answer. Then...what if you don’t come home?. ARGHHHHH!!!

I have a huge headache, and homework.

Oh MAN! NOT what you need, especially on a Monday night!
Too bad the Olympics are over since that seemed to keep her quiet. Maybe you should have recorded them so you could play them over and over again. LOL

I hope she’ll settle down SOON so you can get the homework done and get SOME sleep tonight.

I found her American Pickers...a show she likes.

So she is quiet for now. And with sherbet and chocolate syrup. LOL!

Well, we sure do have plenty of fun here! Don’t need much more than that!

Guess I’d better go now, though. Have to work in the morning, though not quite as early as this morning. See ya tomorrow for a new quiz? Sleep well...you and your 34 fuzzballs! :)

Hey, whatever works! LOL!
Did you give her a big bowl of sherbet and syrup? Might put her into a “food coma” like baby birds go into when they’re full. :-)

I’ve been tempted to call American Pickers to get them here to haul off whatever they want from the outbuildings on the farm. They’re all crammed full of who-knows-what. The mess is too intimidating for me to even think about looking through it. LOL

Good evening/morning, henkster...tank crews are a special breed...sorta like submariners. Bet the boys loved seeing those tanks.

I don’t do small or enclosed spaces.

We do have fun here. Lots of good folks.

Dang, they’re paying you back for all those days off the past couple of weeks, huh? LOL! At least they’re letting you sleep in a little tomorrow. Hope the day goes well.

See ya tomorrow evening or the quiz. :-)

Hey, now that sounds like a good plan.

Are you sure she has no buried treasure in all that stuff? Maybe a cash stash? LOL!
