‘Like a Furnace’: New Yorkers Sweat It Out as Reports of Hot Subway Cars Rise
NY Times ^ | August 21, 2016 | Emma G. Fitzsimmons

Posted on 08/22/2016 9:39:59 AM PDT by C19fan

In the sweaty days of August, when stifling subway platforms become almost unbearable, riders are even more anxious than usual for their trains to arrive so they can cool off inside.

Unless, of course, the air-conditioning on board is broken.

They are known as hot cars, and Tracey-Ann Johnson found herself stepping onto one on a northbound No. 1 train in Manhattan on Sunday after brunch.

I wish the Coastal Elites would get their stories straight about AC. The NY Times seems to be pro-AC for prisoners and subway riders. But the Washington Post claims you don't need AC and life would be more "sensual" without it. I wish someone would put the Post writer on a "hot" subway car all day and see if she still things living without AC is awesome.

If this were the Reagan administration there would be a correlation.

Wasn’t there just an article on this site saying we didn’t need AC?

One of the main highways in Louisville was at a dead stop on a hot day a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the school buses didn’t have air conditioning and they were so hot inside that some method was concocted to get the kids out of the buses and off the highway, as the traffic continued to not move.

I hate the whole commuting concept in a world where telecommuting is totally practical and doable.

I’d smash somebody if they said to me the ROASTING cars were sensual.

Took them for years and the platform is unbearable in the summer. Sick or elderly could quickly die down there.

A hot subway car? With no AC? Have NEVER been on one in my 20 years of going to Manhattan (haven’t for the least 8) and can’t IMAGINE it.

Obama never got his wish of wiping out ACs in the country.

Looking back, thank goodness he was so lazy or he could have done even MORE damage.

And then there’s John Kerry who says AC is more dangerous than ISIS.

Even when they got that bitch down to a subway in NYC, I don’t think she even took a ride on one.

You couldn’t pay me enough to ride a germ filled nasty NY subway. No thanks, I’ll keep driving my own air conditioned vehicle from my garage and park it within feet from my destination.

In a country that has an AGING population due to advances in (face it) medical care, we have idiots who decry the ready availability of EVIL air conditioning.
Do these “do-gooding” idiots realize that it is the very ability to excape extremes of heat that enable thousands of elderly to just remain alive?
The LIBS would have us experience the catastrophic events of France a few summers ago, when a record heat was the cause of thousands of people (of all ages) dying in oven-like apartments that had no cooling devices. Hospitals and emergency stations were just overwhelmed.
Me, I’m clinging to my A/C. Guess I’m just selfish.

The AC is one of the constant problems with cars along with the door mechanism. I wonder if that has anything to do with going with the car builder with the lowest bid. If nothing else they have to run. Anything beyond that is optional.

Car building is a low margin business. The riders are the ones that get to do the BOHICA.

I use to live in London and riding the tube in the summer was so nasty. It was hot, humid, stagnate air, wall to wall people who jam packed each car.... The smell... There always seem to be one bastard who would fart.... sulfur type fart.

In essence, it was hell.
