Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte railed against the United Nations on Sunday after it called for an end to the wave of killings unleashed by his war on drugs, saying he might leave the organization and invite China and others to form a new one.

Two U.N. human rights experts last week urged Manila to stop the extra-judicial executions and killings that have escalated since Duterte won the presidency on a promise to wipe out drugs.

About 900 suspected drug traffickers have been killed since he came to power after winning the election on May 9.

Duterte on Friday denied that the government was responsible and in a middle-of-the-night news conference in his home town, Davao, said the deaths were not the work of the police and invited U.N. experts to investigate themselves. …

A lot of other nations should follow suit.

Manages to make Donald Trump look very, very tame.

But as far as Duterte is concerned, he has a situation of a genie that he has let out of the bottle with no strategy about how to get it to go back into the bottle.

The entirety of the PI is not the same as Davao City. To sweep wickedness from one part of the floor to another part of the floor is one thing. To ask it to solve your whole problem is another.

What’s he going to do WHEN (not if) this expands past the so called drug war? Does he now have another civil war he has to prosecute?

Not sure what you mean. "Follow suit": OK'ing thousands of DIY extrajudicial executions (murders), or "follow suit" quitting the UN?

I oppose the former, approve the latter.

Trouble is, this is not just quitting UN but forming a counter-UN.

This has shades of Gog vs. Magog (Gog means “I roll” and Magog means “Who is Gog?”)

If wickedness is great enough, it can look like righteousness... beware!

Mr. Duterte will set an example for the rest of the world if he carries out the first part of this threat. The only other nation to quit the UN was neighboring Indonesia. President Sukarno pulled out in 1965 because he didn’t want to share Borneo with the new nation of Malaysia, but two years later, after he was ousted, Indonesia rejoined.

After Brexit started the clock ticking on the demise of the EU, the obsolete and corrupt UN is vulnerable to a similar fate. Long past its useful life, the UN is living on borrowed time already.

Good, let's start the exit with the Philippines. The UN has far outlived a useful purpose, indeed, it never had one.

The UN never had a “useful life” any more than the entity it was cloned from, the USSR, did. It was always a device designed to attack the USA’s form of government and way of life.

He carries on like an actual madman. Before God this is just wrong, and if the PI didn’t have such an etiolated piece of the Christian church, there would have been seen much better choices. It’s the classic case of filling a political vacuum with something bad, because something good was AWOL.

Drug addiction is far from PI’s only humanitarian problem. There are families who are forced into risky gold mining practices because the other choice is starving. And yet the overall wealth of the PI is great. If anything should be an example of private charity it ought to be the church/churches — not a dole, but a hand up to a better way of life.

Vacuums demand filling. If the world has laid its negotiation needs upon the UN, walking out on that with no further plan is going to invite things that could be even worse.

It’s possible to hate something so much that one forgets that the supposed light at the end of the tunnel of getting rid of it, could actually be the headlight of an oncoming train.

‘This has shades of Gog vs. Magog (Gog means “I roll” and Magog means “Who is Gog?”)’

Here’s a more accurate meaning of ‘gog’ and ‘magog’.

http://www.abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Gog.html#.V7pcI_krJD8

Gog may be a region, and Magog is then said to mean From Gog (BDB Theological Dictionary). But Ezekiel 38:2 speaks of a man named Gog who is of the land of Magog (= the land of the land of Gog), which seems overly redundant.

But Gog may mean Roof, and Magog may subsequently mean Off The Roof, which means more in English than in Hebrew. Possibly, the rooftop is semi-synonymous to a place of worship, especially pagan worship, and Magog denotes that same inclination.

“Good, let’s start the exit with the Philippines. The UN has far outlived a useful purpose, indeed, it never had one.”

It’s refreshing to hear coming this from a Filipino president, because when I lived over there, I was dismayed at how the people there hold the UN in such high regard. They have “National UN Day” at their schools and do other kinds of celebrations. This would be a big departure for a country like the Philippines, and perhaps the beginning of the demise of that useless organization.

For America to become great again we must remove the UN Sustainable Development noose around our neck.
