Germany to chart first civil defense plan since Cold War

Germany will introduce its first civil defense strategy since the end of the Cold War, calling on the population to stockpile enough food and water for several days, according to a report Sunday.

Guess that they realize the Russian Cold War being restarted by Hillary was a major screwup, and they see Obama doing nothing. And if Hillary is elected they know their country is screwed because Hillary will start World War 3 and lose Europe

This came out mid-day on today (Sun). I would say that a lot of Germans are now asking questions and trying to figure out what drove this new strategy. Frankly, the brief info from state-run news just says this pamphlet (60-odd pages) will come out on Wed and advise some emergency stash of food and water. No one buying into the story....everyone thinks there’s something else to it.

Personally (I live in Germany)....there’s like a whole chapter out of German life which existed prior to the end of the Cold War and the little things that people were prepared for. You could walk into some apartments or houses today, and the host might have three days of food at best in the whole apartment. They aren’t prepared for a blizzard or some major shutdown of five days in the local region..

When is the last time we had any kind of civil defense preparations in this country? I don't think they are even posting the old fallout shelter signs anymore. I remember they announced a test of the air raid sirens in my hometown back in the early 1980's (Reagan actually tried to revive civil defense). They had not been tested since the 1960's and not surprisingly they didn't work. As far as I know that was the last hurrah for any kind of CD.

Given the current situation in the world I would think this should be a priority item. I am not all that worried about a massive nuclear war where civil defense would not be terribly helpful for most of the population. But what if some terrorist group sets off a dirty bomb somewhere? You could have fallout affecting people for hundreds of miles. And there is virtually no plan for this.

Of all the BS I see on FR, the notion that we restarted the Cold War is the most laughable. I mean, you have to ignore more than a decade of Russian history. It’s a blindspot of paleo proportion.

Stalin made a deal w Germany prior to WW2 for the spoils of Poland yet the allies paid USSR off. Plans for who got what from WW1 were in place before that war ended.

Now Putin is friends w Turkey yet never have been good friends. China, Japan and all the Mid East are Saber rattling and in an arms race that rivals both WW1&2.

The U.S. is doing its best to look weak. Financial markets are in a spin.

I think much of the panic on Trump is he was not part of the game.

The only true common enemy is the Mid East and they offer little as consumers other than of weapons and are not cherished as good employees for any workforce.

A readjustment is about to happen. We are too far down the food chain to know but readers of history may have a good guess.

I have enough food and water even for others (including lots of popcorn) but I don’t think what is ahead will be enjoyable for anyone.

I guess the bunkers and other facilities that are in place to protect the members of Congress and other upper echelon government types are seen as sufficient.
