Salon: GOP Must Dump Jesus or Risk Irrelevance in ‘Post-Christian America’
Breitbart.com ^ | 8/20/16 | by Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D.

Salon Magazine has accused the Republican Party of being out of touch with “post-Christian America,” warning the GOP that if it doesn’t renege on its alliance with Christianity, it will soon become irrelevant.

Ted Cruz’s failure to get the GOP nomination, Matthew Sheffield proclaims in Salon, “is a perfect window into trends that will set the pace of American politics for decades to come: Americans are moving away from Christianity, including people most likely to vote Republican.”

To back up his claims, Sheffield cites the 2014 Pew Research study finding that 23 percent of Americans say they’re “unaffiliated” with any religious tradition, up from 20 percent just three years earlier. The trend away from religion, and Christianity in particular, Sheffield argues, is the real cause of Republicans’ woes and their failure to win the last two elections.

“The likely reason why Republicans have declined in popularity among the non-religious is GOP’s long habit of identifying itself as a Christian party,

“Unaffiliated” does not mean non-Christian and it does not mean ‘atheist’.

It means exactly what it says: the respondent is not affiliated with an organized denomination.

Non-denominational does not mean what they think it means, either. There are churches that pride themselves on their stance as a ‘non-denominational’ church.

Those who think they can go it alone without Jesus . . .Creator of the universe, Judge of our souls, and in charge of our next breath are out of their ever lovin’ minds if they denounce the Lord. The span of life here on earth is not even equivalent to a blink of an eye compared to eternity. All politicians (in fact all of us)have a choice of what they will do with Jesus. He is the best Campaign Manager they will ever hope to have.

BS. There are many reasons to loathe Calgary Cruz without ever touching religion.

Okay, GOP listen up. Salon, a very reputable news source, is advising that Jesus must be drummed out or there will be dire consequences. Aren’t you fortunate to have the counsel of such a wonderful organization?

I’ve never understood treating dead bodies or cremains as though some personhood remained within. “We buried Dad next to Mom” makes no sense. When the soul has flown, its fate belongs to another place and dimension.

I’m Christian so don’t come back with any Last Starfighter stuff.

Treat the dead as tradition and/or sentimentality dictates, but don’t believe for one second that one’s loved one resides in a grave somewhere. That’s not God’s intent.

Sounds like the perverts don’t want Jesus around in their Pre-sexual deviant Amerika. I imagine Jesus probably doesn’t really want to be around these perverts either.

Ted Cruz was a liar, and a hypocrite. A snake, and a traitor. That’s why he didn’t win the nomination.

I think a lot of people here didn’t like Cruz because he talked like a TV preacher.

That first paragraph is disgusting. I don’t see or hear any of that when he is giving speeches or visiting LA. Admitted ly I am do not know how to pray for this election other than “please make Hillary lose.”

It’s so magnanimous of Saloon to worry about the Republicans losing. Truly a selfless bunch.
