Syrian regime jets hit Kurdish positions, even after US warning

Syrian regime jets pounded US-backed Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria for a second day, even after the US-led coalition scrambled jets to protect its military advisers working on the ground.

In another escalation of Syria's bloody conflict, warplanes from President Bashar al-Assad's regime were bombarding the city of Hasakeh -- targeting Kurdish forces that for months have worked closely with coalition military advisers helping local fighters combat the Islamic State group.

On Thursday, the United States sent fighter jets to head off air strikes conducted by regime planes and to protect coalition advisers, but the Syrian planes had left by the time they arrived.

It was apparently the first time the coalition had scrambled jets in response to a regime action, and possibly the closest call yet in terms of Syrian forces coming close to killing American or coalition advisers.

"This was done as a measure to protect coalition forces," Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said.

"We will ensure their safety and the Syrian regime would be well-advised not to do things that place them at risk... We view instances that place the coalition at risk with the utmost seriousness and we do have the inherent right of self-defense."

But the Pentagon warning appeared to fall on deaf ears.

You do have a point, but you should do more research.

It's always good to provide links when you make an assertion and are questioned about it.

http://ayfwest.org/news/kurdish-accounts-of-the-armenian-genocide/

The Germans killed massive numbers of Jews in the last century.

So do you condemn all Germans living today?

Stop the Genocide of Iraqi Christians

The unthinkable is happening in the Middle East.

The Islamic State, also known as ISIS, has rolled through Iraq, and they are brutal beyond imagining.

They've given Iraqi Christians an ultimatum: "Convert, leave, or die."

They’ve marked Christian homes and businesses like the Nazis marked Jewish homes.

Christians are fleeing for their lives by the tens of thousands.

They’ve sought refuge in Kurdistan; but so far the Obama Administration has refused to arm the Kurds, and humanitarian aid is very slow to arrive.

There’s no excuse for delay. After the Holocaust, the world promised “never again.” Never again would it stand aside and watch genocide occur.

Tell the Obama Administration to take action. Arm our allies, the Kurds. Flood humanitarian aid to besieged Christians. We cannot allow genocide in Iraq.

There is a lot more you can research to bring your thinking up to date.

Making bold statements with no backup with links really doesn't mean much.

Obviously, it is your patriotic duty to disparage American warriors based on your political predilections. Those of us who still serve with the hope of restoring our military appreciate your scorn.

>>> Not my political predilections, strictly a matter of fact.
>>> An army that openly embraces, celebrates, and promotes sodomy, sodomite “marriage,” and LGBTQ+ is no longer an army; it is irrepairably self-damaged. The Russian army knows this. That’s the basis of my comment.

I would love to introduce you to some of my SOF friends—all of whom are patriots; most of whom are Christian; and many of whom are killed without fanfare in lands most Americans couldn’t find on a map. They are the best of the best and are being purposefully squandered in wars designed to sap the strength of this country.

>>> US & other SOF folks aren’t unknown to me. I know their qualities and what they do.

>>> I take extreme exception to CIA/SOF creation/training/arming of various Muslim terror groups responsible for horrible deaths of tens if not hundreds of thousands of innocent lives - simultaneously claiming to “fight” these same groups when it is a complete and obvious lie.

Unfortunately, we have this strange idea of civilian control of our military, and those civilians are actively working to destroy our armed forces from within and without. I’m sure they appreciate your support.

>>> The military also took an Oath...ALL enemies...foreign AND DOMESTIC.

If you knew anything at all, you’d know that our SOF has worked with Russian counterparts and mutual respect is the rule. Neither side would relish facing off. That we have reached this point is not a military failure, but another indication that Americans have failed to ensure competent leadership.

>>> Americans haven’t just failed to ensure competent leadership, they’ve consistently (across administrations) ensured the most destructive leadership possible.

>>> Constitutional Law is routinely ignored, Congress is ceremonial, Comey officially ended the Rule of Law last month, Trump doesn’t believe his “intelligence” “services” briefings, the fix is in for Hitlery, there is near total MB infiltration and control of State, DOD, WH, CIA, etc. The US is in many ways now a banana Republic.

>>> The Egyptian military knew what to do to save their country and did it.

So do you condemn all Germans living today?

The Germans paid a lot of reparations and do not keep land stolen from Jews. The Germans have renounced Naziism. The Kurds are sitting on land stolen from Christians, and they have never renounced either islam or terrorism. They practice terrorism whole-heartedly today.

'The Germans did it, therefore the Kurds should get a free pass', is a particularly dim-witted argument.

So your comments come because of a false premise that you made up?

If you don't have anything to counter my statements, making something up doesn't cut it.

You are debating w/yourself.

The vast majority of our service members don’t support the immorality. Our entire country has taken an evil path, and unless we return as a whole to the faith that built this country, all is lost.

I would that we never entered the lands of the false prophet. With or without intent, only evil can come of allying with evil. There is not one country that we can trust, and we have proven disloyal to every faction whom we should have supported.

The troops on the ground have been used without regard to ideal. Just as people here have been caught off guard with the depths of evil, so have our warriors. The very loyalty and trust that makes one a good soldier becomes a liability when that trust is broken. This administration has betrayed everything and everyone it touches.

Normalcy bias is just as prevalent in the military as the rest of the country. The realization of evil comes slowly and without easy answer. You speak of oaths, and those who honor that oath are constrained by problems that defy simple answers.

Comparing this country to Egypt or any other country is fallacious. Our country hasn’t been seized by force, it has been corrupted from within. The evils that you list are but symptoms of a country that has turned from God or, if you are not religious, has replaced liberty with license.

Suggesting a domestic military response would alleviate moral decay is to invite tyranny on a level never seen on this planet. The military is restricted by nature to warfare. The only logical outcome to such a scenario is to progress from our “Banana Republic” to a military junta. There may come a time when that is the only response; however by then there will be nothing left to save.

Nailed it.

"The vast majority of our service members don’t support the immorality."

I maintain if someone is a soldier for that immorality, that constitutes support.

It's a volunteer army; no one has to stay. Silence is assent.

One can still be "of service" and patriotic in any manner of civilian GS.

While honoring their Oath involves sacrifice, I argue 1) that 'and domestic' was written for a very specific purpose, and 2) our current situation is exactly that purpose.

I agree with most of what you say, particularly, "Our country hasn’t been seized by force, it has been corrupted from within. The evils that you list are but symptoms of a country that has turned from God..."

Thanks for your thoughtful engagement.

why are Kurds attacking Christians. I thought they were the “moderate” muslims.

Kurds are about 60% Moslem. The rest are Christian, Jewish, Yazidi, Zoroastrian. The moslem Kurds mostly do not want to be Arabized so they oppose the Sunni hegemony. But they are not unified, and some groups may oppose a common goal. On the whole, though, Kurds are the only good guys in the region.

98% of Kurds are Sunni Muslim which means they like to do jihad against Christians.

This is a false statement. You are purveying a lie, for some reason known only to yourself. There are many Christian Kurds, and Jewish Kurds as well. Educate yourself before smearing further falsehoods.

This is very bad. Turkey, Syria, and Russia are working together and the Obama is trying to start a war in Syria via the Kurds.

Right now it's Iran, Russia and Syria. Turkey is caught in a squeeze play. They will go with whoever is the strong horse. Kurds are holding their own in Iraq, defending their territory in Syria, under pressure from Erdogan in Turkey which is par for the course.

Besides, supplying the Kurds long-term is impossible -- every single country around opposes it.

There was a time, in my lifetime, when this would have been an irresistable challenge instead of an insipid pusillanimous obstacle. Remember the Berlin Airlift. But those times, apparently, have gone in this country.

Well, aren’t you going to correct me as to what the true numbers are?

Or tell me who the Kurds are descended from?
