It’s time to come out of the closet. Or, more precisely, the sweat lodge.
My family lives without air conditioning, except for one antique, semi-comatose window unit that “cools” the bedroom to approximately the same temperature as Dallas at dusk.
Our house in Philadelphia was built in the 1920s, when people were tough and resourceful. For most of the year, the house is cool and pleasant, as long as there isn’t a mash-up of continuously scorching days and epic humidity, when the air is putrid, stagnant and, if it were a color, would definitely be mustard.

On top of that, she has obviously never lived in the Deep South or Texas, for example, where it gets HOT and high humidity is the norm! ;-)
Maybe she would like to spend a summer in AZ? I would bet a grand that this tart wouldnt last one month without AC.

I will let my AC run an extra 2 degrees cooler. And I will let my faucet waste extra couple of gallons of water. Oh, and I will make sure my gas burner burns for an extra hour today. All in the honor of this author. Gotta do my part to balance this author’s actions. May be I will drive my V8 for the grocery run, or two.

I hate air conditioning as I love the heat. But I would not deny AC to others. I make up for it in the wintertime when I keep the thermostat at least 70. I hate the cold.

In the summer months in AZ you DO NOT need to pay an exterminator to kill bugs. All you have to do is turn off the AC, shut and lock the front door, and go to California’s beaches for 3 days. When you come back, anything that was living in your house has been BAKED and is dead.
I am publicly offering this idiot my house while I go on vacation. I will not even charge rentfor the house, the only condition I have is that the air conditioning has to be turned off and that I am the beneficiary in the idiot’s will.
I don’t begrudge anyone their a/c, but I’ve never lived in a house with it. I’ve lived in California all my life other than four years in Washington, D.C., so I’ve seen a fair amount of hot weather. But I just don’t like it, would rather put up with however many hot nights a year. But no I don’t imagine I’d be interested in Texas or Mississippi without it.

If I could offer them central air and heat with the snap of my fingers they would have raised me up as if a god.
BTW you seemed to have forgotten in winter they had COAL fired boilers for heat (OMG EVIL COAL).

do not keep it like a fridge in here; but I AM going to
be passably comfortable no matter what this lady thinks.
I do believe many people died in the heat of urban summers before the advent of A/C. But what do I know? Maybe a higher death rate is part of her goal.

She flies 1st class, drives a gasoline burning car, wears makeup and fine clothes (made in the 3rd world by sweatshop labor), and heats her own home in the winter to make herself very comfortable.
But she tells the world "You Don't Need Air Conditioning!"
