The economic crisis in Venezuela continues to worsen, starving citizens broke into a zoo and slaughtered a horse to eat it. Several people busted into the Caricuao Zoo in Caracas and then butchered the zoo's stallion.
According to Fusion.net, prosecutors say the horse was the only one of its kind in the zoo, before it was killed.
It is thought that only its head and ribs were left behind in a pile for the zookeepers to find the next morning.
However, it is not the first instance of animals being taken from the zoo, with Vietnamese pigs and sheep also reportedly stolen.
The zoo animals are also starving. Vietnamese pigs, tapirs, rabbits and birds have died from starvation, some of which went without food for more than 2 weeks.
Marlene Sifontes, 52, union leader for employees in the state parks, said: 'The story of the animals at Caricuao is a metaphor for Venezuelan suffering.'
She said lions and tigers in the zoo in Caracas were being fed mango and pumpkin to make up their meat rations, while an elephant is eating tropical fruit instead of its usual diet of hay.
Other zoo animals are also starving. Three animals died in Paraguana in May and 6 bears are eating only half of their daily required food.
President Nicolas Maduro blames the country's economic crisis on an "economic war" started by local opponents and the United States.

Can’t one of them just fly over and drop food? Would they get shot down?
I wondered why they hadn’t done this sooner. A week or so previous, there was a thread about zoo animals dying from starvation.
What, no twitter outrage over the death of these animals?
Cecil the lion is deeply saddened.
Send a drone to drop food?
“I wonder what all of the Bernie supporters think of this development?”
The WRONG people were implementing socialism.
Where is the UN in this crisis? The private aid organizations?
...
Or Spicoli with some bagels or a pizza.
Yay! Socialism! Wonder if Bernie and Killary will partake in the feast?
FOR THE WIN!
So the Clinton Foundation will rush in and help save the poor, down-trodden?
Memphis has a great zoo. Really only the city has. We have had to deal with “FREE” day during spring break though...
LOL...LR Zoo had a “free admission day” ....needless to say, I felt underarmed with a FN Five-Seven on me and a PS90 in the truck.
Soylent green ...
And still Maduro will not step down. Keep all this as a lesson in how bad things can get here. There is no level where the well fed elites will say “enough, I was wrong.” In fact, the only thing the elites will ever do is cling to power harder, because the alternative is to join the starvation.
So lessee...our citizens have no food...no money...no gasoline..pretty much nothing.....oh, I have an idea..lets take their guns too...now they’re really f’ed...
Giraffes are kosher.
Jack Hanna Shrugged.
“I’m so hungry I could eat a horse AND a giraffe!”
