Kouren-Rodney Bernard Thomas
20-year-old Kouren-Rodney Bernard Thomas, who was shot and died.
In many locations that's merely known as a 'day of the week.'
The article is fuzzy, but it appears there were two callers who called police, one who was stating he was with neighborhood watch, and was going to secure his neighborhood, and one who was the homeowner who fired the warning shot. It could be they're one-in-the-same, but there were two separate calls.
Either way, saying you're gonna secure the neighborhood, or saying you fired a warning shot, you're in world of hurt.
I don't think the warning shot is supposed to be aimed at the people in question.
He was correctly charged if one of those fellows was not brandishing a gun.
He needed to shut up and ask for lawyer.
As should anyone ever talking to the police after a murder/ death.
Self defense is the legal issue. Was he under threat of his life and use deadly force to counter that?
Yup, it’s badly written and I got the feeling it might be two callers as well. If so, there’s a whole lot of dumb in that neighborhood.
Was afraid George Zimmerman had moved to Raleigh...
He sounds like someone who hasn’t a clue as to what the law on self-defense is. North Carolina requires a warning shot first? I don’t think so.
The caller said some were. So, if a large group was outside your house, and some of them were brandishing weapons, would you feel threatened, or feel safe because some were not brandishing weapons? The first weapon shown in a threatening manner to the homeowner trumps even his own idiotic statement of firing a warning shot. A good attorney could say he was so shaken by the whole thing, he wasn't thinking straight when he called 911. Were I on the jury, I'd likely acquit, unless some other factor were involved (like this guy turning out to being the same guy who called to say he was going to secure his neighborhood).
Yup. I feel for the guy if he was just there trying to protect himself. But if he's the same guy who called to say he was going to secure the neighborhood, well then, all bets are off.
I would be so shaken up after shooting someone that I might accidentally claim I fired a warning shot, too, when I actually meant to say that I warned them away, but they kept brandishing weapons, pointing them at me, and advancing toward me on my property, and I had nowhere to run to, since there were several of them.
Well the police had seven minutes where were they?
He fired a warning shot but Kouren-Rodney didn’t move out of the way. Drugs slow down your reaction time.
He has not been empowered to "secure the neighborhood". Did he not learn from the George Zimmmerman case?
Chances are, that whole “I’m going to secure the neighborhood” had the cops scrambling WAY faster than they would have with a simple “There are people in my yard threatening and assaulting me”.
And the call just came 7 minutes before the second call. that’s all. No mention of 7 minute response times.
Yeah.
Lots of stupid people carry misinformation around with them like albatrosses around their necks. You start out telling rumored regulation as children......then you grow up and know better. Some people never grow up and stay ignorant their whole lives.
Decent citizens must know the law affords them little protection in such cases. Tarheels are moving fast toward Mrs. Bill this year.
I fired my warning shot like I am supposed to by law.
There is no such law in Georgia. I doubt there is one in his. Few warning shots are fired horizontally. That fellow was correctly charged.
