The Turkish Incirlik airbase in Adana, Turkey, which houses NATO forces, U.S. forces and at least 50 nuclear devices, experienced massive protests this week, yet the media and President Barack Obama have been conspicuously silent.

Somehow we have to break the back of this totalitarian propaganda machine that ignores a story as important as this one.

Nice to see non mainstream getting on it though.

Some background from Dec 2015

‘Turkey is out of control’

https://www.rt.com/op-edge/326318-turkey-us-isis-iraq/

Turks don’t feel that they need to pay any attention to the US. There are no sanctions to be incurred by ignoring the US, says Larry Johnson, former CIA and State Department official. They are pursuing their own interests regardless of what Washington wants, he adds.

RT: The decision comes a few weeks after a Turkish fighter jet (an F-16 in that case) shot down a Russian bomber. Does this suggest the US is growing increasingly wary over what Turkey might do next?

Larry Johnson: I think it has more to do with the fact that the US government called for Turkey to back off and leave the Kurds alone. And this is another example of Turkish pique. They are upset with the US meddling in Turkish affairs is quite clear from the earlier reports. The biggest bad actor in this entire affair that’s enabling ISIS is, in fact, the government of Turkey. So, by forcing US fighter planes to withdraw - which are capable of providing some close air support to forces on the ground fighting against ISIS - Turkey once again is tacitly, at least, admitting that it is supporting ISIS and it is not willing to support itself fully to its destruction.

Just fight our way out and leave. Erdagon is a pro isis Wahhabi Sunni. He spent 6 months in prison for islamist extremism. He wants Turkey to be the Caliphate. Why is this not being covered? The secular coup was not supported by obama? Obama supported this Isis loving Sunni extremists!! This is happening and its getting no coverage!!

This is the second “siege” taken amid rumors of a second coup attempt. Turkish troops entered and exited the base. Rumors are the hot news in the ME and acted on as reliable.

Not exactly breaking news since it’s THEIR base.

Pravda says Turkey is ignoring the US? Shocking.

So it had nothing to do with the VIP visit. Unless it was for intimidation. Obama’s number one military officer is arriving at Incirlik tonight. Heads to Ankara for talks tomorrow. The Turks were just acting on a second coup rumor and assembled 7,000 police and dozens of commercial trucks and blockaded the base within a couple hours. Normal behavior. Okay..

Of course it’s news sourced from the Ihlas Turkish news agency, which is controlled by Erdogan no doubt.

Turkey and Russia have some issues with each other.

What popped out at me was the statement "I think it has more to do with the fact that the US government called for Turkey to back off and leave the Kurds alone."

I don't remember that or understand how that could happen as Obama hates the Kurds and refused to help arm them because they are fighting the good fight.

Kurdistan has greatly been absorbed by Syria, Turkey and Iran.

Remember that Turkey refused to let US forces get to Iraq via their country back in the day.

Erdogan needs some stability.

The jihadists...his supporters...have been suppressed for a CENTURY.

All that Erdogan has done....50,000 purged...isn’t enough to satisfy the blood lust of the fundamentalists.

Erdogan has to redirect/refocus the blood lust of his supporters to a foreign vilin...or he’s at risk of being deposed, likely killed, himself.

Now, put yourself in the position of the Turks guarding the outside parimeter of the base. You may have orders to fire on the crowd if it comes to that, those orders may be coming from the very top, but you know in your heart of hearts the leadership, certainly Erdogan, will deny those orders.

So, your choices are...

1.). Surrender and be court martialed.

2.). Resist, half heartedly, for appearance, be beheaded on the spot by protesters.

3.). Fire on the crowd, die or survive and your actions will be condemned and you’ll be tortured/executed.

Remember, the Iranian hostages were taken by “students”...the powers that be had plausible deniability.

The Turks guarding the base are in an impossible situation. Damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Yes, that kind of a lead on current events is prophetic, to say the least.

Worst of all, it underscores the incompetence in Washington, DC.

Exactly. Sure wish people would stop going to the click bait sites. The Turks are pretty effective about protecting the base perimeter, since its their base. They did a good job of rolling up terrorists when I was there, and keeping demonstrations away from us and our operations when I was there running security for the day shift. The assets are safe, whatever may be there right now. You can bet their security perimeter has been expanded to take into account ISIS trying to do something to the parked aircraft. My experience was their intel was impeccable. Hence, why I believe there’s more to the “coup” than appears, like many do. Interesting times.

Good points, but the situation has drastically changed in Turkey. The 7,000 police last night were conducting a security check on the base due to rumors that a second coup was planned. The base was blockaded as Turkish Police entered the base and made sure the Turks defending the base were not conducting a coup.

The media is not going to mention this because a parallel will be made to carter and Iran hostage situation.
