Talked with a long time and dear friend a few days ago, who happens to be a democrat (yes, it is possible to maintain these friendships, as long as you avoid some topics..). She's not a huge Hillary fan, but her take was that ‘Trump is dangerous’ and would get us into a war. This is a very smart and educated person, and this just goes to show how media control and manipulation drives perception. I said, ‘he was against the Iraq war’, and there's nothing to indicate that he is pro-war. That resulted in a bit of a pause, but it illustrates to me that Trump needs to hit back hard on the ‘stability and demeanor’ issue, as this will be important in getting independents on board.

I think his message should also drive home the fact that appeasement as a national security strategy doesn't lead to anyone actually liking us any better, or to national security. Maybe he could use a short slogan along the lines of: ‘Prevent war and ensure safety and security by making sure America is strong’. He should also emphasize that having a strong and sane foreign policy is the best way to ensure that our sons and daughters don't have to go to foreign lands and be targets for those who have been seasoned by hate.

Trump’s instincts have been pretty good so far. If he is going to continue to be talked out of them then it may be a short campaign.
