I think he bears a striking resemblance to the actor Michael O’Keefe: Danny Noonan in “Caddyshack”... Ben Meechum in “The Great Santini.”

RIP...

Lt. Cmdr. Susan Ivanova: You're a vicious man.

Michael Garibaldi: I'm Head of Security. It's in the job description.

***

Michael Garibaldi: I'm an eye-for-an-eye, tooth-for-a-tooth kind of guy.

Delenn: So you support a system that would leave everyone blind and toothless.

Michael Garibaldi: Not everyone. Just the bad guys.

***

Merchant: I don't give out names. It's bad for business.

Michael Garibaldi: Yeah well so is having your eyeballs spooned out and served on toast. Now make up your mind and make it up fast because it's getting awfully close to my breakfast time.

He almost died a few years ago....

He was off the air for several weeks at that time.

He was NOT in good health.

Years ago I thought he had the look to play Bill, The Galactic Hero from the Harry Harrison books.

He was great in B5! Rest in peace Jerry D.

I remember Babylon 5 (B5) with very great fondness and that includes Michael Garibaldi as the security chief. Like Star Wars, B5’s creator, J. Michael Straczynski, knew that there would be slums as well as polished floors everywhere humans went, even in space, and it was Mr Garibaldi’s job to patrol both. Given that he had to come between G’Kar and Londo frequently, his character had to be tough but the episode where he showed his love for “Looney Tunes” will stay with me.

A great bunch of memories from B5 and perhaps, Andreas Katsulas will, like his G’Kar character, be waiting at the Great Gate, for his friend to come in!

RIP Mr Doyle, thanks for the memories!

I remember how he went on and on on his show about a tiny dent in his new stainless steel refrigerator. He pretended that he didn’t see it but of course he did. Day after day he was tormented by the tiny dent. Then a year passed and the warranty expired. Finally he couldn’t take it any more and he bought a new fridge and gave the one with the tiny dent away. He was hilarious!

It’s not the SFX that made the show, but the story. I still enjoy it.

I loved his sense of Humor, he was certainly a character!

I loved how he used talk about how he and Bruce Boxenleitner ( also a conservative) used to eat lunch together and sometimes talk to JMS ( a big lib) and they both drive him crazy with their conservatism.

It was an awesome show and very epic in feel of the universe, yet very personal when it came to the characters.

I believe Mr. Doyle was a heavy smoker and was overly fond of booze.

I’d say conservative libertarian, but yes, one of the few open conservatives.

Babylon 5 also had the unique five year plot outline so you had character development of the people that wasn’t a wild twist or “oh boy, what can we do for a cliffhanger?”
The throwaway politician pining for the good old days to emperor.
The rebel wanting to free his people getting their independence AND trying to free their souls.
The obedient member of the Corps to the overthrow of the authoritarian state, both planetary government and Psi Corps controlling telepaths
The female alien who started the Membari war healing it in several different aspects, from mingling/bonding with humans in several ways and bringing peace personally and across the interstellar space

Bill the Galactic Hero was what started to turn me off on the Harry Harrison writing schlock.

Listened to Jerry a few times on the radio. Wasn’t really a fan of B5, but he seemed like a good, fun guy on the radio.

RIP, big guy.

Given all the deaths and production problems it really does seem that “Babylon 5” was truly cursed.

Every attempt to continue it has failed.

B5 was syndicated show on a tight budget.

They were pioneers in that CGI had never been used on that scale prior to that time. All TV SF up to that point relied heavily on models for all clips featuring spaceships.

Paramount eventually hired their SFX company away to work on Deep Space 9.
