Turkey's elite presidential guard is to be disbanded after nearly 300 of its members were detained following last week's failed coup.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told a TV channel that there was "no need" for the regiment.
Earlier, Turkey detained a nephew of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen who it says was behind the uprising. He strongly denies the claim.
A key aide of Mr Gulen has also been arrested, a presidency official said.

With an airbase being held hostage, with all the American personnel and equipment, AND NUCLEAR WEAPONS included, isn’t this an act of war?

Trump has publicly proclaimed his admiration for the Mohammaden dog Erdogan within the last week so it seems unlikely that he’ll say anything.
I bet he fired them by text.

Trump’s statements are much less a support of Erdogan than they are respecting national sovereignty and supposed NATO allies.
I rather imagine that when Trump is fully informed on exactly what Erdogan is and intends, his attitude will change.
A lot of western politicians were saying the same about Hitler in 1935.
Winston Churchill was almost run out of Parliament for suggesting back then that Hitler was a bad guy.

In “Quentin Durward” there is no doubt that they are the Scottish Guards. Maybe later they changed to Swiss. I just don’t know but Scott invented the historical novel and always had the history accurate.
