So why can’t someone ever vote again after they completed their punishment.

What the hell is it with you? Are you being willfully obtuse? Not being able to vote *IS* a component of the punishment!

You seems to think if a person gets sentenced to jail time AND restitution, if they serve the time, they don't have to pay the restitution. Loss of certain civil right is cooked right into a conviction of that class of crime known as "felony" regardless of what else the judge may hand down!

A DUI is a felony in many states. So should my brother who got one, not be allowed to vote. I think you are the one willfully obtuse.

Thankfully, another person commenting on it, explained Virginia system of restoring the rights to a non-violent felon.

Thank you for explanation. That system seems very fair.

His blanket pardon does not, and is politically calculated.

I see pig-headed rationalization runs in the family. Be that as it may, if the voters of any particular state approve DUI being classified as a felony, who am I to contradict them.

Even so, No, I do not think someone stupid enough to get a DUI has any business telling those of us NOT that stupid how we should govern ourselves.

As for "what you think," I see very little evidence of it. I see loads of adolescent angst, and lowbrow equivocation, but very little in the way of "thought."

You like to insult, as I mentioned before. You probably have no teeth left. You also strike me as angry self righteous person.
Millions in this country have DUIs. The state of Minnesota 10%
of adult drivers. So all of these people can’t vote either. My brother’s DUI was 20 years ago, he lost his license for 1 year and costed him about 12K, so according to you, he shouldn’t be allowed to vote? How about someone who went 20+ over the speed limit, that is a felony in some places; should be not be allowed to vote? When the government passes a gun law that makes you a felon, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote?

You like to insult...

Try reading this thread again, hypocrite. So far as I can tell, the only problem you have with my insults is I'm better at it than you.

Furthermore, you can forget trying to find "just the right" hypothetical that will magically make me see the validity of your point. It doesn't exist, because as I said earlier, I'm not so presumptuous as to dictate to other jurisdictions what should and should not be considered a felony.

If they decided something deserved felony status, losing the right to vote and the ability to possess firearms is integral to that status. Blame the voters of that jurisdiction, not the people who won't give you an exception to the principle.

By the way, what "law" would that be?

You are better than me? Nope, you are wrong again.

So you are for taking people rights away? I think you very clear.
