If he wins the presidency, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would seek to purge the federal government of officials appointed by Democratic President Barack Obama and could ask Congress to pass legislation making it easier to fire public workers, Trump ally, Chris Christie, said on Tuesday.
Christie, who is governor of New Jersey and leads Trump's White House transition team, said the campaign was drawing up a list of federal government employees to fire if Trump defeats Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 presidential election.
“As you know from his other career, Donald likes to fire people,” Christie told a closed-door meeting with dozens of donors at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, according to an audio recording obtained by Reuters and two participants in the meeting.
Christie was referring to Trump's starring role in the long-running television show "The Apprentice," where his catch-phrase was "You're fired!"
The Trump campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
Trump's transition advisers fear that Obama may convert these appointees to civil servants, who have more job security than officials who have been politically appointed. This would allow officials to keep their jobs in a new, possibly Republican, administration, Christie said.
“It’s called burrowing," Christie said. "You take them from the political appointee side into the civil service side, in order to try to set up ... roadblocks for your successor, kind of like when all the Clinton people took all the Ws off the keyboard when George Bush was coming into the White House.”

Why does he need Congress to do this, just do an Obama and just do it. Obama has been ignoring congress the whole time, now it’s our turn.
How is it Reuters and others always seem to get recordings from “closed door meetings” when it’s Republicans, but nobody has a clue what Hillary has said in many of her paid speeches behind “closed doors”?
The DHS should be eliminated all together. The FBI is the agency responsible for homeland security, at least it was.
Get the law passed and include a sunset clause of 4 years. Under normal circumstances it’s probably a good thing to not make it too easy to fire civil servants. The potential for a corrupt administration to take advantage of such a policy is high. But these are not normal times. The civil service is already infested with political hacks and/or incompetent or unnecessary people. We need a major house cleaning.
So, the story starts out that mean old Trump wants to purge the wonderful Obama Appointees while the fact is that he would have to change the Law because of Obama changing their Status to thwart the new President.

make the law so that any one that is a political appointee keeps the status for four years after switching over to non political appointment in government making it so who ever is president can fire them at there leisure. also would remove what ever protections there were for government officials if they ever were appointed to a position in government rather then slowly moving up in the bureaucracy.
They must be assigned to menial "Task Forces", etc. or transferred to faraway duty stations which they refuse to accept! I can assure you that the methods are well known (and hopefully employed!!!)

I think it would also be good to audit government funding of putative social welfare groups like La Raza, Acorn and its spinoffs, etc.

Can’t he get around this simply by eliminating positions rather than firing? Even if he has to completely close down a department and open up a new one under a new name, bring back the employees he wants to the renamed department, and not those he doesn’t want. Would that work?
To hell with firing these traitors. We need military tribunals for a good majority of these aholes.
