Republican Jews struggle with Trump candidacy
Arutz Sheva ^ | 7/19/16 | Ron Kampeas

JTA - Donald Trump’s campaign for the presidency rolled out its Israel Advisory Committee last week -- no one noticed.

Blame the unrelenting news cycle, if you will: July 14 was the day of the hideous mass killing in Nice, France.

But also, his Israel Advisory Committee consists of exactly three Jews, including two who work for him.

Not much news here, move along.

Trump’s unusual campaign extends to its Jewish outreach, or rather his lack of Jewish outreach resembling anything that has come under that rubric in other campaigns.

Campaigns routinely distribute talking points to Jewish supporters and cultivate them as “validators,” folks who will appear on their behalf in the community and Jewish media making their case. But insiders say that Republican Jews who want to support Trump within their community have heard … crickets.

No talking points. No invitations to speak on his behalf to their communities. Calls by potential supporters and donors on behalf of daughters and nephews who want to volunteer go unreturned. (Like JTA's request to the Trump campaign for comment on this story.)

Tevi Troy, a deputy secretary of health under President George W. Bush and a formidable Jewish community validator for past Republican candidates, said no one has been in touch this year, but that may be because he’s not on any of the relevant lists. Troy had opposed Trump during the primaries, but once it became clear in May that Trump would be the nominee, he said he was open to persuasion.

“I don’t think they’re targeting messages specifically to the Jewish community,” he said.

I have more in common with conservative Jews than with liberal Catholics.

There is one valid point in the article, however. Trump’s organization needs to mobilize the Jewish support that it can expect, with talking points and events and identified liaisons with his campaign, and they are apparently not doing that, which is a tactical mistake. Perhaps they are neglecting everyone equally, though.

But those Jews who are on Clinton’s side are not doing so out of animosity towards Christians, but as a knee-jerk reflex that has afflicted generations of American Jews since FDR showed up. It is irrational, but it is not anti-Christian. Opposition to Trump, for that matter, is not because of his deep Christian convictions, or lack thereof, which are hardly relevant to this election, but also because of the same knee-jerk reflex.

So they want to be pandered to, to have their collective egos stroked?

He has said on numerous occasions that he is pro-Israel.

I agree his staff should be returning calls, but he has a small staff and I imagine they are rather busy right now.

its not pandering; supporting Israel and promoting the support of it is the essence of Americanism.

Also, since when is Donald Trump some paradigm of Christian virtue? He’s tossed his wife over for a younger model, and hurt his share of people.

And David the King of Israel was an adulterer and complicit in the death of a paramour's husband. God often uses flawed individuals.

Clinocchio only pretended to be a Christian, so that’s two.

The way Christian is used in that context only indicates that the subject is not Jewish, Moslem, Hindu, atheist, etc.

Given the alternative, you'd have to be nuts not to support Trump if you're Jewish. Given past history, I'd say that a vast majority of American Jews probably are nuts when it comes to the DOP vs. the GOP. So then why try to cultivate them, when the probable returns will be limited at best.

Agreed with the first point here: "Given the alternative (i.e., "The Witch"), you would have to be nuts not to support Trump if you are Jewish."

But I don't believe that such "a vast majority of American Jews" will vote for the 'Rats this time around. Look for Trump to do about as well as Reagan did among Jewish voters - in other words, set a modern record or come close to one for a Republican presidential candidate, about 40%, maybe even more.

I'm familiar with this JTA writer, Ron Kampeas. His goal here is merely to to be a leftist fly-on-the-wall infiltrator at the GOP Convention, to come up with any anti-Trump gossip to feed to his pro-Dummycrat Jewish readers. And he rally has to reach deep down to come up with this stuff.

Trump may not be the best man the GOP could have nominated, but he is not antisemitic nor anti-Israel. The contrast with his 'Rat opponent on this is striking.

I am only surrounded by LIBERAL JEWS!! And they DETEST Republicans because they think they are too Christian!!

You are overgeneralizing about Liberal Jews. There a lot more politically conservative Jews in the US than you think, and some of us are regulars here on FR. Yes, some of these leftish morons (Jewish AND non-Jewish) are bigoted enough to believe that all Republicans are too Christian. But ironically enough, Trump may attract some votes from usually knee-jerk Democrats simply because he himself is not considered "too Christian."

I was supplementing my response to Post 41, which reads and I quote:

“They would rather be in the OVENS than VOTE for a CHRISTIAN, it seems! My in laws feel exactly the same way....they LIVE live like Presbyterians and vote like Puerto Ricans because they DETEST CHRISTIANS!!”

Please read my comments within the confines of a response that comment.

Well, what is that reflex?

Forty percent of Orthodox Jews voted for Hillary in 2000. The more kids they have, the more they need the benefits.

Isn’t a person born to a Christian family who no longer believes in God an atheist?

Yes, but only if he's been polled/surveyed etc. and made the declaration. Otherwise he's in the Christian column for statistical purposes.

If we knew the heart of every individual the stats on religious affiliation would probably change markedly.
