Cleveland (CNN)Former President George W. Bush fretted to a group of former aides and advisers in April that he was worried he could be the "last Republican president."

The 43rd president's remark, at a gathering in Dallas of his administration's staffers, reflected a dim view of the party's prospects at a time when the primary contest was realistically down to Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Did the check ever clear? IIRC, GW kept telling us in the early days that the Iraqi people would be so grateful we liberated them that they would pay for the war with oil revenues.

And he has done more to make that happen than anyone.

Yes.

Slamming the incompetent communist, who totes serious psychological issues, for the last 7.5 years certainly is taking it’s toll on common sense.

Hey, W! When did you or your whole fam damily ever give two
dead flies about the Republican party, anyway? You never
hesitated to give the ‘Rats what they wanted as long as they
tolerated your nation building projects. And, when did you
ever bother to defend the GOP, let alone yourself?

The only difference between George and Jeb?

We were less lucky tripping George on the way to the White House.

It appears W has done the impossible.

He’s made all of us loathe and detest him just as much as the Michael Moore-types do.

Well, gee. Maybe he should start campaigning for our Republican nominee.

Amen!

I liked him a lot more when he was keeping his big mouth shut.

Sorry W, Reagan was the last Republican President, so that moniker goes to him you nitwit.

...

Yep. W was the first Mexican president.

I am so disappointed in W and the entire Bush family— they couldn’t muster up a criticism of Obama over two terms and now they criticize... they have never played well in the sandbox, the party is frail because they have acted as if it was their Republican party for too many years. So thankful this election isn’t Bush v. Clinton...

Ronald Reagan was the last Republican president. It’s been downhill with every president of both parties ever since.

In the interest of full disclosure I think Daddy Bush
may have been the leader of the GOP once upon a time but
I don’t care enough to verify if you get my drift.

On a personal note regarding W, I should have smelled a
Rat when he opposed California’s Prop 187 (anti illegal
alien bill) when he was gov of Texas.

We should be so lucky that he was the last "Republican" president.

I'm far more concerned George Washington Bush will prove to be our last "REAL" president - vis-a-vis the current, undocumented, usurper-in-chief who isn't too likely, or those above him, to turn over control of this country to conservatives.

Given dem dirty tricks, demographic shifts, illegals voting and the like Dubya could be right. There are huge swaths of the electorate locked in as dem voters. This upcoming election will be tough.

It seems many of Bush’s policies were designed to do just that.

No, maybe Reagan was the last Republican president.

The Bushies certainly didn’t do much for Conservative/Republican longevity.

The Dems have a long-term strategy, and either the RINOs are TOO STOOOOPID to figure it out, or they secretly want it to succeed.

Let Hillary pack the SCOTUS and begin ensconcing the whole Progressive agenda as a “right”.....let 30 million new third-world immigrants register to vote.....forcibly relocate Section 8 into “red” Congressional districts....and Republicans never WILL win another election again.

Junior kept his trap shut about Obozo for the last 7.5 years. And so he picks now, in the middle of the GOP convention, to start chiming in - to slam the GOP nominee? Shut your trap and go away Georgie. If we never see another GOP president it will be in large part due to the fecklessness of the last two - you and your father. “Read my lips - bite me!”
