A Cronkite News-Univision News-Dallas Morning News border poll found a majority of urban residents surveyed on both sides of the border are against the building of a wall between the two countries and believe the campaign’s tone n is damaging relations.

Not only is it Cronkite News, Univision and DMN, but it is specifically a “border poll”.

They are really plumbing the depths of despair when they have to take a “border poll” of “urban” US AND Mexican residents in order to get the result they want.

How about a poll of AMERICANS in the border states!

So a border wall would not help combat drug trafficking?

I don’t get it.

We could always build the wall a few miles north of the border.

The people who live near the border should not have a particularly large voice in this debate. A secure border serves a national interest, not a local one. We, as a country, should not be overly concerned about what border area residents think of this policy.

majority of urban residents

Sure they want their relatives to easily join them. How about the ranchers who are right on the border? How do they feel about it?

... and have a squadron of ED-209s patrolling the area south of the wall. When that area started looking like the start of one of the Terminator movies (skulls and skeletons everywhere), I guarantee there would be no illegal immigration.

Actually I think just the ED-209s would suffice. Save the wall money for deportations.

or combat drug trafficking and human smuggling

Trump is proposing a solution. Just because you disagree with it, doesn't mean it is not a solution.

The drug traffiking is easily done with a wide open border.

From the article, “The majority of interviews were done in Spanish on both sides of the border, and the margin of error was 2.6 percent.”

This is BS at the highest degree. It is also interesting that they conducted their interviews in “urban” areas and not in rural areas.

Tells you everything you need to know about who they polled and the results they were looking to get, doesn't it?

help their economies or combat drug trafficking and human smuggling,

Economies of Mexican 'urban areas' are not under the jurisdiction of the USA, however, economies are tanked by illegal immigration, which drains the job and public services sectors. Drugs and human smuggling is one-way - again, a Mexican government problem, that the USA has thrown billions of dollars to, to stop the problem. Seems to me, these folks are complaining to the wrong government.
