With multple officers killed and wounded, I don’t know if sending detectives to seek out possible suspects is the best of tactics. I think way way back to the London PD first response during the Siege of Sydney Street.

It sounds like the detectives are driving over to speak to a witness who contacted the police about sighting the 2 suspects earlier. There are already police on the scene with the witness awaiting the arrival of the detectives.
