Donald Trump Forces G.O.P. to Choose Between Insularity and Outreach
New York Times ^ | July 16, 2016 | ALEXANDER BURNS and JONATHAN MARTIN

Republicans have wrestled for years with the push and pull of seeking to win over new groups of voters while tending to their overwhelmingly white and conservative base. Now, Mr. Trump’s candidacy may force them into making a fateful choice: whether to fully embrace the Trump model and become, effectively, a party of white identity politics, or to pursue a broader political coalition by repudiating Mr. Trump’s ideas — and many of the voters he has gathered behind his campaign.

With his diatribes against Islam, immigration from Mexico and economic competition from Asia, Mr. Trump has amassed dominant support from restive white voters. His political approach would have Republicans court working-class and rural whites, mainly in the South and Midwest, at the grievous cost of alienating minorities and women, who often decide presidential races.

(Snip)

The coalition that carried Mr. Trump to the nomination he will formally claim at the Republican National Convention this week in Cleveland is likely to remain a powerful force on the right, even if he is defeated in November. But its continued sway within the party could suffocate Republicans at the national level, stifling attempts to expand beyond a dwindling base of aggrieved older voters.

A starkly different path forward for Republicans would involve rejecting that base and the ideas that Mr. Trump has used to assemble it.

In order to build a winning party again, some Republican leaders say, the party will have to disavow Mr. Trump’s exclusionary message, even at the price of driving away voters at the core of the Republican base — perhaps a third or more of the party.

The NYT says that the Republican Party is already out of touch with mainstream voters on gay marriage and gun rights. The NYT says Trump now has the Party out of touch on MORE issues like Islam and immigration because the American people (outside Trump's evil base) disagree with Trump's policy on blocking people from countries with a high rate of terrorism and want amnesty (comparing the deportation of people breaking immigration laws to Japanese style interment camps).

The article goes on to quote our lead candidate for a Cantoring, Paul Ryan, who "predicted that the aftermath of the election would bring 'a fight for the soul of our party,' and said Republicans would have to reject the politics of racial resentment, which he called 'a loser.'

“'Our job is not to preach to a shrinking choir; it’s to win converts,' said Mr. Ryan, who has endorsed Mr. Trump but criticizes his pronouncements with regularity."

The worst offender in this piece is Jeff Flake who I read clashed with Trump at his meeting with GOP Senators. Flake lives up to his name and said the party should "be prepared" to split with Trump, and here is the key right here:

“You’ve got to hope that, if this race keeps going the way it looks to be going, that it’s enough of a jolt to wake people up and say we don’t want to be relegated to second place in every future presidential campaign,” Mr. Flake said.

He suggested a purge of racists from the party that would recall the expulsion of the John Birch Society, a fringe nationalist group, from Republican ranks a half-century ago.

“Those who want a Muslim ban, those who will disparage individuals or groups — yes, we ought to, we need to,” Mr. Flake said.

The article also quotes an Adam Kinzinger from Illinois who is a representative. He says that if Trump gets defeated, he will "push back really hard" on efforts to toughen our immigration stance.

Eric Cantor also makes an appearance in this article of course saying Trump turns off more people than he gathers.

Flake wants to purge Trump supporters from the party and form a party with voters who support immigration from countries with problems with terrorism, amnesty, and free trade I suppose. I wonder how many of these people who come in from these countries or are given amnesty will vote Republican. Hmmm...

The NYT says that Trump voters represent 1/3 to 1/2 of the Party and are talking about purging us. Good luck trying to win. They say the base would be replaced with women, latinos, and asians who may not be reliable, leaving the party with no base.

The bottom line is, the NYT already thought we were hateful, bigoted people before Trump. Calling us racists was one thing they used to help Obama get elected. They just think we are moreso now. They are Democrats through and through. Do you think they care one iota about the future of the Republican Party? If this hurts the party as they claim, they ought to celebrate. They know "purging" Trump's voters would hurt the party more than not, so that's why they are arguing for it. Also, if we are a small minority that can't win, then why worry about it, NYT? Enjoy your landslide victory.

The funny thing is the majority of people who read this will be Democrats. Confirmation bias.

By the way, primary Jeff Flake in 2018.

.....Mr. Trump has amassed dominant support from restive white voters.

Why is a concern of white people, thus supporting [the racist] Trump, "resistive?" when blacks, Hispanics or Asians' concerns is equality, freedom and human rights?

You're right. This article is just confirmation bias. Sort of like periodic 'refresher' training in some specific area, to make sure the brainwashing is still good.

Damn white voters! Why would we want the evil racist white man when we can ‘reach out’ to Hispanics and Africans who care nothing for race. We could change our whole constituency and drastically change America. Embrace globalism and Marxism instead of the ole tired white guys who never done anything but rape, pillage and destroy.

The DBM call policies that are good for this country an appeal to white voters.

That further confirms that the DBM and Rats are primarily interested in policies that drag this country down.

Democrats have chosen to pretend Islam isn't any more violent than being Methodist.

All proof to the contrary Democrats are sticking with that irrational position.

Why?

They're twisting reality to the breaking point. They've got to win at all costs. Winning's trumping reality for the New York Times - - it explains the attacks on Whites, Christians and Jews. Their newspaper's going broke - they're desperate. We should feel pity for Alexander Burns and Johathan Martin - they're trapped in an old world view.

I think one of my opposition strategies to Hillary would be if I were the opposing candidate is to put her between a rock and hard place:

Wall Street/Corporations and entitlements.

Who will get the most benefit out of her presidency?

Then, develop clear reasons why NO ONE but ‘Her’ will benefit from her policies - the family’s own little dynastic cash cow - The Clinton Foundation.

Just look at the GOP in CA. They did reach out to everyone - illegals, black underclass, and gays. What has it gotten them. Permanent minority status. They’re not even token opposition. The CA GOP simply moderated itself out of existence.

When will Carlos Slim’s “newspaper” call the Democrat party what it is - a non-white identity party based on hatred of whites?

the electorate is still 75% white. A sensible strategy markets to the majority - unless you dont believe in democracy. Obviously Trump does.

I have added WASP to my tagline as a result of this Old Gray Whore drivel

I’m becoming more and more proud to be a white man as the colored and religious political enemies insist on proliferating.

Discrimination is good. Profiling is the wise use of discrimination. To survive in this world I must discriminate and make good choices

Following this advice creates the uni-party - progressive globalists. Nationalism does not only appeal to white voters.

We have citizens of all colors who care about their own economic interests. We have citizens of all colors who are not Demonrat into the agendas of whores and thugs.

The NYT is terrified that Trump will make the white base energized enough to show up in record numbers.

They are afraid that white blue collars will jump over to the R side.

They are afraid that white women will choose safety from violence over feminism.
