I hope all forgive the vanity posting, I really try not to do them, but I, along with many of you have been following with great interest, Trumps VP pick. I like many of you had a wish list and have read with great interest everyones opinion on the pick, both pro and con. However, I think at the end of the day, Trump made and outstanding pick in Pence, for reasons many of us may at first have overlooked.
Those of you who follow this board, Im sure know me as an ardent Trump supporter, have been since he announced. I grew up and live in NJ (not my fault), and have watched Trump for years, all the way back to my first NJ Generals game in 1984. Hes been a constant presence here ever since I can remember, and yes, I go to the Taj when in AC, even though Trump doesnt own it anymore. Carl Icahn does. At 18, I went to the US Air Force Academy, graduated in 1992 and did 6 years active duty. I had a front row seat at an early age to both outstanding and poor leaders. After I got out in 1998, I went into business and have continually worked in the NYC area in the Financial Services industry and again have had a front row seat to both great and terrible executives. Trump is an outstanding executive and the Pence pick proves it.
CEOs set the strategy and vision, but Trump has little to no experience in passing legislation, and probably doesnt care one bit about the nuts and bolts of doing so. He told us from the beginning that he was going to get a political person to help him with the legislative part of the job, and he got about the best person available to do that. In Trumps world, his VP is his COO, the right hand person who is going to execute his vision. So, excluding Sessions and Mike Flynn, who may or may not have been in the running, we had 3 generally accepted finalists; Newt, Christie, and Pence.
Newt is a master legislator but is undisciplined and has a bad habit of running off at the mouth. He also backtracks frequently. Just last night he was lauded here for his comments on Islam and not 12 hours later he was clarifying himself. Weekly, Newt would be stirring up another controversy that would overshadow the message. From an executives standpoint, Newt was the absolute worst person you could have had for VP because he would view his role as a co-Presidency. So we can see why Newt was out.
Christie, is my governor. Hes a little all over the map, but generally speaking, he might have been acceptable in 2012 in place of Willard as the nominee, but not in 2016 as the nominee or VP. Christie is great on taxes, a wonderful debater, takes no crap from Democrats and the media and overall would be better than Newt, but you already have 1 executive in Trump, why would you need two? On top of that, Christie also has some very large negatives. He has toughened gun laws here, gave in state tuition to illegals, had the debacle with hugging Obama after Sandy, and Bridgegate is getting ready to ramp up. Also, he is basically a gavone as we say here.
So that left Pence. Pence has some negatives like the rest, which are well documented, but again, go back to Trump as the CEO to understand this pick. We also must understand that the basic facts are that most of the GOP outright sucks. It is full of cheap labor hacks, pro amnesty shills, and Chamber of Commerce sell outs. The pickings are slim for someone to align with Trump. There is nobody out there like Trump otherwise they would be nominee and not Trump. So Trump is the CEO and Pence will be the COO. Pence was the least worst option that perfectly fulfilled Trumps greatest weakness. A 10 year legislator in Congress who can handle the job of crafting legislation and working with Congress, and also a Chief Executive as Governor of Indiana in case God forbid he should have to assume the Presidency.
So we should all be thankful we just saw a great CEO make a pick that will help him implement his agenda for the good of the country. Trump also learned from business that the person who beats you in a deal or steals one from you may be the next person you partner with, which is why he could care less that Pence endorsed Cruz. If what I saw Trump demonstrate with this pick is how he runs his administration, we are going to get some things back on track in this country.
...ozone...
Faux-one, however
That’s why, supposedly, FR wasn’t supposed to have sugar daddies, because they can then sour up the joint.
Money doesn’t talk, it swears.
Just randomly asking some people... Does anyone know the real story about CNN’s claim that DT was up until midnight “frantically making calls” to back out of choosing Pence? I don’t believe that for a minute, and of course CNN chose a smear they cannot prove, but I was just wondering.
The @#$%^&*!! you say.
He is, but his aide just got indicted, so who knows what they may spill in order to save their own skin?
I’ve complained about him dozens of times. Never did any good. That’s why I just ignore his posts.
Other forum software allows one to permanently remove a posters post form your view. I wish the FR software would allow that.
Sounds like a “they wish.”
If anyone righty would have panned Pence, it would have been certainly seen on FR. Instead it was a no drama moment. Hillary didn’t like it, but she wouldn’t have liked it had Trump picked Geraldine Ferraro, that was a fill-in-the-name press release.
Grumble gunner.
I saw somewhere am someone name Dana at cnn started it but don’t quote me. Total nonsense. I would imagine he had conversation with all of the choices and they discussed what would be best positions for each individual.
Don’t think there is anything to it. Pence flew into Teterboro last night, but Trump called off the announcement for today. So Pence I’m assuming decided to go back to Indiana rather than wait around 2 days. Dana Bash (who can’t pronounce her name correctly), ran with some bs tweet about an unnamed source who said Trump was trying to get out of picking Pence. Then the Washington Compost ran with it as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if the source was Newt, if there even was a source.
Yeah, I would guess (but who knows?) that any supposed evidence of Trump hesitating over Pence last night had only to do with the terror attack in France. Trump didn’t want to proceed with a political announcement while such terrible events were unfolding in France.
IF there was any more to it I seriously doubt that Dana Bash is in the loop on it. Unless real evidence is presented, I am going to suspect that Trump was only hesitating due to the horror in France (which was an appropriate reason to put off political announcements) and not because he had last-minute doubts about nominating Pence.
Thanks for the responses. Wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall sometimes to know what really goes on? ;-)
Every day!!
Brw...is everyone out there on the volunteer list for the Trump campaign?
The story (did Trump have second thoughts?) doesn’t bother me. With the horrific slaughter in France yesterday, it’s clear that France is an out of control war zone that could spread to other countries. Isn’t it possible that Mr. Trump was second-guessing the skill set a VP would need? If the story is true, the only thing it indicates is how careful he was with the decision and how willing he is to respond to rapidly changing events.
True... timing of the announcement looks like it has a lot to do with it.
You are spot on with Newt. He would constantly be stirring the pot and sometimes overshadowing or competing with Trump. We only need 1 $hit stirrer, Trump! The VP needs to be a good, loyal, smart guy and I think Pence is fine. There are others that may be qualified but in the end, the VP just needs to help carry the team, not lead it, and above all, not cause unneeded controversy for the liberal press to use for talking points.
The way you put that makes me feel better about Pence. In the modern era it’s kind of weird to think that a President would invest so much confidence and authority in a vp...but wow...when we think about that’s the model it should be. I think GW did that with Cheney but it’s with almost everyone else it’s been about giving power and authority to unelected officials.
