What really happened at Comey's press conference?
AMERICAN THINKER ^ | JULY 15, 2016 | Robert K. Wilcox

Posted on 07/15/2016 12:21:29 PM PDT by onyx

What really happened at FBI director James Comey's press conference this week?  After giving a textbook case of why Hillary Clinton should be charged, he surprised everyone by saying she should not.

Did he simply blow it?  Did he wimp out, knowing the wrath he would face?  Unquestionably, Hillary committed offenses for which the average Joe would be arrested.  Was he blackmailed or bought off?  Was he politically motivated?

There's truth somewhere in or around those guesses.  Hillary, as Comey's testimony of what she did exposed, certainly deserved to be prosecuted.  Others have been put in jail for much less, including an innocent video maker she blamed for Benghazi.  But with no answers from Comey as to why he did it, I'm reminded of the Vietnam War performance of Jeremiah Denton, a U.S. prisoner of war (POW) hauled in the war's early stages before cameras by North Vietnamese captors to attest to U.S. "war crimes."

Denton, who would become a U.S. senator from Alabama but at the time was a high-ranking naval aviator in the hands of his North Viet enemies, pulled a spectacular stunt on his captors.  While mouthing the lies they made him say about U.S. bombings, he blinked his eyes in Morse code relating "torture" while feigning that the lights were too bright.  It was the first credible confirmation that our POWs were being tortured, valuable information used from then on by U.S. war planners and negotiators.

Was Comey, in his own way, doing something similar?  That's probably a stretch.  But in view of the devastating case he presented before letting Hillary off the hook, his schizophrenic press conference seems to have done something similar to Denton's.

This decision was telegraphed months in advance. The fact is she should have been indicted the moment the first, single top secret email was identified and wasn’t, was a sure indication there was a buyout or payoff in the works. As the months rolled by and many more sensitive documents were found, that she was going to get off scot free should not have surprised anyone.

Excuse my naiveté; but his non-answer, “I cannot comment on the existence or non-existence of FBI investigations.”
still leaves a glimmer of hope.

They are NOT stupid, and I must assume they have factual and indisputable evidence of the ‘pay to play’ shenanigans between former S.O.S. and the Clinton ‘not for profit philanthropy.’

Director Comey understands a recommended indictment would lead to many delays - the truth would not come out (if ever) until well past election day. Justice delayed is justice denied.

My hope is that the FBI (regardless and separate from the e-mail non-indictment) will soon release evidence of treason, espionage, perjury, obstruction of justice, destruction of evidence, etc. against both bubba and hilda.

This would have immediate ramifications BEFORE the election!

I would believe it was a performance if he would have resigned that same week. He gave cover to 0bama & DOJ by proclaiming no charges - supposedly an apolitical position making the determination. I thought the FBI gathered evidence and the DOJ determined if charges are pressed. Am I incorrect?

“I know I’ll get killed for this, but I think he took one for the team.

She’s lost about 10 or more points since he damned her with faint praise.

Did he wuss out? Probably, but got SOME courage at the last minute and buried her.

I dont care if one monster goes to jail this year or next year.

300 MILLION people matter a lot more than our egos or righteous anger.”

I agree with you. It is just too simple, too pat, to have him “wimping out” or “being bought off” or some such similar tripe. Everyone who’s worked with this guy, Giuliani included (and whatever you think of him, he has integrity), say that he’s a true patriot and an honest investigator.

When he said that no prosecutor would take this case...well, I can see that - which prosecutor wants to be in the crosshairs (literally and figuratively) of the Clinton family?

He could have had a 5-minute press conference, cast doubt and dispersions on the various accusations against Clinton, and THEN said that no prosecutor would touch this. But he didn’t do that, he went on for about 13 minutes, in GREAT detail, about her obvious guilt. He left so much out in the public view to distrust about her (well, more than was already out there), that he helped to drive a stake into her campaign. It wasn’t a killing blow, but it drew blood. As you mentioned, her polls are down quite a bit...and that was before Nice, and before Pence was chosen.

This election is Trump’s to lose at this point, and a part of the credit HAS to go to Comey...even though it was incredibly disappointing to see a no prosecute decision.

Comey is a gutless weasel.

But he’ll be able to retire in grand style with a lucrative federal pension. Too much to risk losing, I suppose, in the name of integrity.

And then 5 cops were murdered...Comey WHO? WHAT testimony? The media IGNORED IT due to the ever so COINCIDENTAL 'cop murders' in Dallas.

Yep.

If Comey was just gutless, why didn’t he just fold? Why did he shred the witch, rather than praising her when she needed it?

That’s even MORE of a reason to want her to NOT have been indicted. She would have gotten off and we wouldnt have the WORST candidate in American history running against us.

as the article implies, this could have been Comey’s version of Morse Code indicating torture - or in this case, that his family was credibly threatened by the Clinton crime family.

No sale. I still think he’s a weasel. Thanks for playing, however.

If he had an ounce of honor he would have resigned.

I don't find that part hard to believe. They always seem to act as if they can get away with anything at all. It makes one think they have a reason for acting that way.
