The Senate's Only Black Republican Opens Up About Being Mistreated by Cops
Atlantic ^ | 7/15/16

Tim Scott of South Carolina is the only black Republican in the United States Senate. This week, moved by police killings of Eric Garner, Walter Scott, and Philando Castile, he rose to the floor to deliver a moving speech about his personal history being stopped by law-enforcement officers for what amounted to driving while black. “While I thank God that I have not endured bodily harm,” he declared, “I have felt the pressure applied by the scales of justice when they are slanted. I have felt the anger, the frustration, the sadness, and the humiliation that comes from feeling that you are being targeted for nothing more than being just yourself.

It seems that using black officers to patrol black neighborhoods would be a solution to the constant whining about racism. Use Hispanic, or at least Spanish-speaking, cops in Hispanic neighborhoods, Asian cops in Asian neighborhoods, and white cops in white neighborhoods. Integration has not worked, and conservatives who hold onto the 1960-70s era mantra of brotherhood and unity (which came from the liberals of that era) are wrong. By and large, people prefer to deal with those of their own kind, whether lawmen, doctors, store owners, etc.

Re: 9

I absolutely agree with your summation.
There is no excuse to be a racist, we are all children of Adam and Eve, and of Noah -- in the not too distant past. We are all at a minimum distantly related cousins.
That being said, 'profiling' and using judgments based on experiences (your's or others) is common sense. And if you find that one side of the family has a tendency to act violently, common sense tells you to be wary in certain situations.
The police are often exposed and in danger (and unfortunately targeted due to the statements of our Racist in Chief), and you'd expect them to be very wary.

He admits to speeding. When I got older and started diving the speed limit and driving far less aggressively, I started getting pulled over a lot less.

There also seems to be this implicit assumption that all cops are white racists or that the institution itself is racist. Maybe he did encounter a racist cop or two or three. But most police departments have black officers and most large cities where these incidents occur have black chiefs, mayors, and prosecutors. In that environment crying racism is just delusional.

There was a study of race versus driving performed in, of all places, New Jersey. Seems that a disproportionate number of speeding tickets on the New Jersey Turnpike were given to blacks. So, confronted with a Federal lawsuit, NJ did a study with high speed cameras and identified the race of a car's driver and its speed. It seems that blacks tended to drive faster than non-blacks.

Otherwise, I think it's awfully difficult to identify a driver's race when a car is moving at speed.

So I am a little skeptical. I personally found that I attracted much less attention from the police once I bought a Volvo. (Also, when I stopped driving like a ****. Well, mostly. My wife still thinks I drive like a ****.)

So Scott’s protected from all criticism because his being black makes his critics racists? Really?

Does that mean the leftists are right when they say that all disagreement with obama is racist?

“Perhaps a non-police agency charged with enforcing traffic laws could safely discharge its duties without being armed, much as parking-enforcement teams do today.”

Great idea! Who will be the first to sign to be a unarmed traffic cop stopping gang-banggers on MLK Ave, USA?

Tim Scott is one of the good guys. I myself as a northern-tagged white woman have been mistreated during a traffic stop by a southern-state cop — because he could. I was appalled to read of Scott being called “boy” in this century.

The solution Scott proposes — to have a separate section of policing only for motor/driving issues so as not to turn every stop into a potential felony investigation — is valid and very worth considering.

Naturally, we want our felony investigators to be able to apprehend criminals when they are in cars; but that truly is a separate issue that starts with the felony investigation and not with a fishing expedition during an illegal left-turn stop. We also want to have specific grounds for a warrantless search of a car and particularly for body cavity searches on the highway.

Go to Carolina and have NY license plates and see what happens.

TRUTH!!!! Same applies here in Alabama and other states too.

According to family friends that are HP in Florida they have 3 speed limits on the Interstates -- Florida tags get 85, South and West get 80, Northern tags get 71.

IIRC, he’s given that little speech before. I didn’t believe it then and I don’t this time.

“I love Tim Scott. Real conservative. If you disparage him, you are seriously a racist.”

People up north are so bigoted. I’m beginning to wonder what the real reason was that the northern states attacked the south.

Was tailgated by Virginia Beach Police from the entering the city limits until I left them. I was on my way from NJ to NC.

Lived in Williamsburg Va for a year. Luckily, met a nice cop who told me to get my Va license ASAP.

That’s because cops have quotas.

States are broke.

Of course voters get mad at cops rather than politicians who spending them into oblivion.

But voters believe the lies - which is why this guy is complaining of police harassment. Because it works. :)

From the article:

please remember that in the course of one year, I’ve been stopped seven times by law-enforcement officers. Not four, not five, not six, but seven times in one year as an elected official.

I thought their cars had Congressional license plates.

License plates are issued by the states. South Carolina doesn't have a specialty license plate for office holders.

If you have legitimate criticism of Sen. Scott, let’s hear it.

Your original statement:

“If you disparage him, you are seriously a racist.”

predefines any criticism of him as racist and thereby illegitimate.
