Newt Gingrich said Thursday night in the aftermath of the deadly truck attack in France that the US should issue a religious test to Muslims and deport those who are found to believe in Shariah, or Islamic law.
The former House speaker made his comments on Fox News when host Sean Hannity asked, "What does this tragedy, this evil attack tonight, mean for that conflict and debate?"
"Western civilization is in a war," Gingrich said. "We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Shariah, they should be deported. Shariah is incompatible with Western civilization. Modern Muslims who have given up Shariah, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door."
He added: "Anybody who goes on a website favoring ISIS, or Al Qaeda, or other terrorist groups, that should be a felony, and they should go to jail. Any organization which hosts such a website should be engaged in a felony. It should be closed down immediately."
The First Amendment to the US Constitution protects against "an establishment of religion, prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
Gingrich, who was thought to be one of Donald Trump's top picks for vice president, said he was "sick and tired of being told that the wealthiest, most powerful civilization in history, all of Western civilization, is helpless in the face of a group of medieval barbarians."

It’s actually in the Constitution that the Constitution is the supreme law of the USA, period.
Sharia Law holds that it is supreme above all man-made law, including our Constitution.
Sharia Law, which includes stoning gays and rape victims to death among other atrocities.
If a Muslim is not willing to be videotaped swearing to uphold the Constitution above Sharia law, he should be deported or exiled.
That videotaped oath of allegiance to the Constitution would constitute an oath of apostasy against Islam to Islamic fanatics.
It would be like demanding that Lucifer take a shower in Holy Water.
Freedom of speech, freedom of religion. Absolutes.
Keep an eye on the suspicious, incarcerate those who begin acting as enemies - yes.
Seems our problem is top leadership cutting off objective investigations _because_ of the religion involved, rather than continuing despite it.
We can retain our principles while ending this threat.
Problem is, our POTUS is part of the threat.
Videotape it, and post it on the internet.
But Islam is not just a “religion,” it’s a totalitarian system that demands of its adherents that they wage jihad against the world until it submits to Islam under Sharia Law.
The Constitution is the supreme law of the USA. Sharia is the supreme law to devout Muslims. Sharia, which orders the stoning to death of gays and rape victims, etc.
And a muslim will truthfully answer to a non-believer? I don’t think so. It ain’t hard. Shut down the mosques/islamic centers, stop the influx of muslims and deport those that are already here. Problem solved.
Answer: Skip the test and deport them all.

IMO, Islam is insanity and should be controlled like any other disease. We differ, I don’t fault you for that, but I’m thinking of survival of western civilization and living under a Constitution that was put together by men that believed in God, and EXPECTED honest, loyal citizens to defend it.
Allowing that instrument to be subsumed by liberal dogma that will not address insane barbarism and coupling parts of it’s meaning is the ‘rigid’ constitutionalist’s pyrrhic victory that ends in disaster. Nowhere in any of my beliefs or thoughts about this country’s origins OR continuance includes any tolerance for Islam as a natural right like those confirmed in the Constitution. It is an insane aberration that should not be, frankly.

Maybe as part of a larger strategy but otherwise I disagree. We have a diversity/immigration problem in this country of which Muslim are a part. This idea that if we just ask them a question will take care of it is a weak solution.
Muslims are allowed to lie to non-muslims so it is meaningless to take their word for anything.

Maybe he was going out to make a splash in a last minute push to clinch the VP slot, in case Trump was wavering. Maybe he thought that this would appeal to Trump.
Or maybe he knew that the decision was made, and he was debuting his new role as a surrogate, raising issues that help the campaign, without the campaign being accountable for them.
It was some real red meat.
It will take care of a lot of it.
Apostasy is a death-penalty fatwah under Sharia Law.
Swearing an oath—on videotape, for the internet— to uphold the Constitution over Sharia Law puts Muslims clearly across a great divide from the fanatics.
It’s a starting point. If we are not going to at the very least demand that they swear an oath of allegiance to the Constitution over Sharia Law, as the Constitution demands, then we have in effect surrendered to Sharia Law.
We can still reconcile & resolve the problem without trampling the 1st.
- Oath of loyalty means something
- Any enemy action will be dealt with severely
- Investigations will be thorough despite religion (just consider it a valid data point, can do that without bigotry).
I’m just concerned we adhere to core principles and not abandon them.
Why do you consider that Newt DQ’d himself from veep?
Are you unaware that the Constitution is the supreme law of the USA, and that we take an oath to uphold and defend it in order to hold an office, or join the military or LE?
Are you unaware that Sharia Law asserts that it is the supreme law of the entire world, above every man-made law, including the Constitution?
Islam is not just a religion: Sharia Law is an all-encompassing totalitarian system that demands that even non-Muslims abide by it.
Are you unaware of the above?
