President George W. Bush: We Are Grief Stricken, Heartbroken and Forever Grateful
Townhall.com ^ | July 12, 2016 | Katie Pavlich

Posted on 07/12/2016 2:02:21 PM PDT by Kaslin

Today an interfaith ceremony was held to honor the five police officers murdered in Dallas last week. Native Texan and former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush sat in the front row as honored guests.

President Bush led the nation after 9/11, somehow finding a way to deliver the right words to a shaken nation and today, in the wake of the worst loss of law enforcement life since that horrible day, he offered words of healing, support and unity to the country.

"Laura and I see members of law enforcement everyday, we count them as our friends," Bush said. "Their courage is our protection and shield. We're proud of the men we mourn and the community that has rallied to honor them and support the wounded. The Mayor and the police department have been mighty inspirations for the rest of the nation."

"With their deaths, we have lost so much. We are grief stricken, heartbroken and forever grateful," he continued. "Each new day can bring new dangers, but none of us were prepared, or could be prepared, for the ambush and shock of hatred and malice."

"To renew our unity we need to remember our values," he said. "We don't want the unity of grief, nor do we want the unity of fear. We want the unity of hope, dignity and high purpose."

"[To the children of those lost] Your loss is unfair, we cannot explain it, but we can stand beside you and share your grief and we can hope God will comfort you with a hope deeper than sorrow."

“we can not explain it”

As President, Bush asked a lot of servicemen to have the courage to risk their lives and health (and many lost both) for the country.

While this wasn’t the place, at some point in the past, he should have had the courage to call out Obama personally for his racist, divisive acts and words. To me, lacking the courage to do so seems disgraceful and disrespectful to those who gave so much.

Bush doesn’t seem to have a problem criticizing Trump.

I will NEVER understand how the Liberal brain works.

I can ‘splain it to you.

You’re bad, I’m good.
Heads, I win, tails, you lose.
I am morally superior because I have good intentions.
The fact that I have good intentions totally trumps the fact that what I want can never work in the practical sense.
Since my intentions make what I want is inherently good and moral, if you oppose it you must be evil.
Any elected politician who prevented me from getting what I want must be triple-SUPER-evil!
If what I want harms people, institutions and businesses, that’s a shame, but it’s a worthy sacrifice, because my intentions make that morally superior.
Possessing my beliefs and worldview makes me infinitely smarter than you.
People who disagree with me must be mentally ill, and should be taken off to camps and re-educated.

Can’t believe I can’t remember for sure, but I believe the Mayor named them and have a brief bio. I’m happy to be corrected if I’m just getting senile :)

For your information Jeb Bush wasn't at the memorial service.

The speeches today entirely portray the man who was a true President and which one was a community organizer.

I believe President Bush has indirectly criticized Trump (and Cruz) in the past.

The entire Bush clan, and their minions, have publicly criticized Trump and Cruz.

And Jeb gave a medal to Shrillary. If you want to see a Bush really fight, aim him at a conservative.

That arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is the current president, but President Bush is the former President of the United States. Former presidents will always be addressed as Mr President

I will leave my criticisms of George W. for other threads, but he did give a very nice speech here.

Words cannot express the contempt I have for this vile man. He cannot vacate 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue soon enough.

I despise that arrogant pos and January 20, 2016 does not come soon enough for me either.
