Venezuela Seizes Local Kimberly-Clark Factory

Just hours after Kimberly-Clark, the consumer-products giant that owns Kleenex and Huggies, said it will shutter its Venezuela operations after years of grappling with soaring inflation and a shortage of hard currency and raw materials, Venezuela retaliated by announcing it would seize the factory. Over the weekend, Kimberly-Clark said that the South American nation’s deteriorating economic situation had made “it impossible to continue our business at this time." The company had made a number of hard-to-find staples in Venezuela such as diapers and face tissues.

This is hardly new to Venezuela. Chavez took power in 1999. A number of years ago the TP crisis was already becoming real and a wise Freeper posted that when TP becomes a luxury you have achieved Communism. TP was a luxury in the old Soviet Union too.

Yeah, and I have that on first-hand testimony. An old co-worker described the West as the place where you don't have little bits of wood in your TP. I thought he was kidding. As recently as the last winter Olympics you were wise to bring your own. Damn...

I recall that in some other countries 35 yrs ago the toilet paper came in rough, small, square or rectangular pieces, not rolls. Probably many countries had not yet obtained the better factory equipment to make rolls of Charmin or Scott. Don’t know what the state of toilet paper may be in the world now....

LOL, I can’t roll it off the roll at a speed of 1 sheet per second without having it rip and tear...I bow down to the industrial Gods who can do it at a half a mile a minute and have it roll up nicely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even more amazing is that they manufacture it in such large quantities ans at such a cheap price that you can use it to decorate your next door neighbors trees and front lawn and still have enough left over to take care of it's official business :-)
