Dallas police used bomb robot to kill shooting suspect

By James Rogers Published July 08, 2016 FoxNews.com

Dallas police used an explosive device attached to a robot to kill a suspect in the coordinated sniper attack that killed five officers Thursday, in what experts say is a first for law enforcement.

In a press conference Police Chief David Brown explained that the robot was deployed on the second floor of El Centro College in downtown Dallas following a standoff early Friday.

“We cornered one suspect and we tried to negotiate for several hours - negotiations broke down, we had an exchange of gunfire with the suspect,” he said. “We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was,” he said.

Brown explained that “other options” would have exposed the police officers to great danger.

The police chief confirmed that the suspect was killed by the bomb’s detonation, noting that reports the suspect killed himself were inaccurate.

BOTH standoffs resulted from cops getting shot and killed. Or did you not know that?

I was right, you're a moron. Both standoffs began when a large contingent of Federal officers invaded private property and in both cases fired first.

Hard Hearted Hanna here. We won’t have to hire lawyers to represent him in a trail, won’t have to feed him, won’t have to waste medical supplies on him, won’t have to provide clothes for him.

"Er, what cops did Randy Weaver and David Koresh, et al kill"

At Ruby Ridge, William Degan.

At Mt Carmel, C.C. LeBleu, Todd McKeeshan, Robert Williams, and Steve Willis.

The PERP was so armored up that they needed to use a bomb to kill him.

I don’t know the answer to your questions as I was not there. I trust that the police did the only thing they could at that point. To speculate anything else is just that ... speculation. We weren’t there. We don’t know the exact situation they were facing.

Immediately after I hit "Enter", I realized I should've qualified the question.

It should've been ""Er, what cops did Randy Weaver and David Koresh, et al kill...to provoke the confrontation?"

Deegan's death, as I'm sure you know, was eventually ruled a case of self-defense -- thus, it doesn't represent a legitimate provocation. The LEO deaths at Mt. Carmel came about because of an unprovoked and ill-advised mass attack.

In my opinion, there is no meaningful comparison between taking out the perp in Dallas and Ruby Ridge or Mt. Carmel.

A surprising response from one named “Carthego delenda est”?

IIRC the Romans killed or captured the entire population of Carthage.

The terms of slavery for the survivors, may not have been so generous.

I would have used a robot wood chipper with a large vacuum attachment.

Yep, *never* in the history of policing has this scenario come up. Luckily, they had thise COOL military arsenal just *begging* to be used.

Again, sad to see the mental flip-flops done by some here on ‘cowboy SWAT vs. ‘Citizen’’ = bad vs. ‘cowboy SWAT vs. ‘baddie’’; when soon, that distinction won’t be a dime’s worth of difference (bitter clingers/etc.)

WHO KNEW that the suspect had Space Battleship Yamato parked in a nearby back alley, waiting to pulverize the city of Dallas?

I said paralyze, not pulverize. I know they kind of sound alike, but they're different.

And if you think "law enforcement is getting The Vapors over something", you must think the lives of all those black terror victims don't mean any more than some 19th century female acting "strange" or having a fake fainting spell, I respectfully (well, sort of, since you're a FReeper) disagree.

Whatever. As I said, you weren’t there and don’t know what they were facing at the moment. This guy took out 5 of their guys and wounded 6 others. He was skilled. How many more needed to die to bring him in alive? What would be an acceptable amount to you?

"In my opinion, there is no meaningful comparison...."

Of course not, in your mind....

But in a cop's mind?

It is a rare cop indeed who does not have the "one of our own" mentality.

They consider themselves a special class, much like most politicians do.

Respecting the cops, and the jobs they do should be no different than respecting the military, firefighters, or any other job. Giving them a pass when they act against our Constitution should never happen.

Ahhh, the ‘at long as they got home alive’ defense.

Judge, jury, executioner....long live the Republic, the Rule of Law and Rights, no? That ain’t no Peace Officer screaming, “Stop resisting arrest!”, as they taze and pummel into submission. Sorry, but NO ONE with any ‘authority/power’ should be given a blank-check.

Guess when they’re busting down the wrong door @ 4AM and throwing flash-bangs into cribs, or scoring the ‘big haul’ of someone having a few $G’s on their person (and, maybe, the ‘helpful’ K-9 unit to ‘alert’)...I mean, you *never* know what they’re facing.

How, exactly, is employing a robot bomb to take out a dangerous murderer against our Constitution? How does a robot bomb differ from a sniper rifle or, for that matter, a Glock in that regard?
