"...I don't want the damned thing taking over the controls..."

Absolutely agree with your post above, I want the USA back.

Computers, radar, and lasers simply cannot make fine distinctions that a human brain CAN in the same situations.
I saw a kid so engrossed in his game, texting, or Facebooking that he came to a halt IN TRAFFIC doing whatever he was doing on his cellphone.
It was in a regular "dumb" car, not a self-driving / semi-autonomous vehicle. This insanity has to stop.

WSJ had a headline this morning saying, “Some Drivers Vexed by Tesla Autopilot.”

First time I’d seen “vexed” used as a synonym for “decapitated,” but that’s how languages develop ...

You guys are going to be really annoyed in coming years...

These vehicles will drive better than the average person. They see 360 degrees at all times and never become “distracted”. They do not drink.

Death rates plummet. Using the auto-mode will be optional though, at least until people think driving yourself is absolutely nuts and pass a law against it.

Thinning the herd.

Tesla!

When it's not crashing into a Jersey barrier and going into a roll over crash into oncoming traffic, it's burning your house down while you sleep.

It will be a lot like airbags and self-braking cars.

Things will be great until they go horribly wrong. Then you have the mass recalls.

>I don’t use “cruise control” because I am in control at all times. I don’t want the stupid machine accelerating or slowing down. I make the decisions in my car, not a dumb machine.

I have automatic cruise control that handles speeding up and down based on traffic in front me in my 5 year old dodge. I’ve never had the system fail. It’s the best way to drive long distances.

I’ll be happy to auto mode required for all freeway driving. It would really increase the throughput on such roads.

The title and the video do not go together. There is no crash shown in the video.

Too true, but I still sometimes miss that old Chev flat-head six that anybody could rebuild in two days.

I cannot wait for commercial long haul trucks to have auto pilot too!

All the idiots can kill each other.

no, not as easily as you might think. I also see people not adjusting to weather either.

Perhaps a Special Category for Tesla Owners.
