The presidential race has grown a bit tighter in this weeks White House Watch survey.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds Donald Trump with 42% of the vote, while Hillary Clinton earns 40%. Thirteen percent (13%) still like another candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
This survey was taken Tuesday evening following FBI Director James Comey's announcement that his agency would not seek any indictments of Clinton despite her "extremely careless" handling of classified information while serving as secretary of State. Most voters disagree with Comeys decision.
Trump pulled ahead of Clinton last week 43% to 39%, his highest level of support in Rasmussen Reports matchups with Clinton since last October. Support for Clinton remains below the level of support she received for most of June.
Rasmussen Reports will release new presidential race numbers with Libertarian Gary Johnson in the mix tomorrow morning at 8:30 Eastern.
Trump now earns 73% support among his fellow Republicans and picks up 13% of the Democratic vote. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Democrats like Clinton, as do 11% of GOP voters. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, Trump holds a 20-point lead, but 33% of these voters like some other candidate or are undecided.

It’s statistically insignificant since it is within the moe.
A dead heat....
The conventions and the debates are going to move the numbers.
Take away from the poll is with all the flack Trump’s gotten and the MSM being an unofficial media arm of Hillary’s campaign he’s still competitive.
And in better shape than Mittens was at this same point four years ago.
Poll was taken Tuesday evening. No time for the masses to really be exposed to the fallout.
Any platinum members out there? It would be interesting to see the makeup of those polled.
But don’t you understand?
Mittens is the only one who can beat Hillary...
And Mittens family still wants him to run.
That said, considering everything going on, Trump should be down by ten points.
In 1988, Dukakis led by double digits in July.
What’s clear is Hillary’s ethical baggage is weighing her down and she can’t seem to clear the trust hurdle.
In spite of not being indicated for brazen violations of national security statutes.
Sure he can.
Like the guy beat Obama.
Oh wait, he didn’t...
Hillary has a core constituency of about 40%: brain-dead people who would still vote for her if she committed murder on live TV.
In my not so humble opinion;
If the GOP manages to keep Trump off the ballot, Hillary wins by 20+ points.
If they do not keep Trump off the ballot, he wins by 2-4 points and that ain’t gonna get it.
Trump must win by at least 5-10 points or the vote counters will tilt the count to Hillary.
How the @#$ do those numbers add up to only a 2 percent lead?
20 over independents??
The 73 crap with republicans is hurting us.
I know some “i can’t vote for him because of my values” people.
They’re not conservatives. They’re A######s.
I know three. Want to drag them to the polls.
Yup. 45% is her ceiling and 40% is her base.
She can be the worst candidate in the world and if she never campaigned or spent a cent, she would still get 40% in November.
Which tracks what Democrats have historically gotten in presidential elections dating back to 1968.
Its gonna be a close election.
I don’t see a landslide happening.
Then again, we’ll know more by October.
I know a number of those types as well. I think after the convention and people start thinking about bigger issues, such as SCOTUS picks, economic policy, etc., Trump will bring some of those GOP leaning voters home.
I believe any person who willingly votes for Hillary could be in danger of Hell Fire judgement!
that used to be 20%. What changed if any?
They don't let you see the brake down of the poll.
Trend is your friend.........................
...or worse..................
I can’t say what I’d like to do to George Will on this board.
I’m sure at least some idiots followed his lead.
We REALLY need to talk to these people before the election.
I HATE being from a blowout state. She’s up 21 in NY. But i will vote to add to his margin.
If any one can take a toxic client and rehabilitate his image, its Paul Manafort.
The convention will allow him present Trump to the delegates and the American people as Trump should be seen.
And there are two weeks to go.
