Rio police tell tourists they won’t be able to protect them during Olympics: ‘Welcome to hell’

Rio de Janeiro police officers are warning tourists that they’re on their own this summer as the Brazilian city struggles to cope with rising violent crime ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games.

About 100 Rio state police officers protested last week in the arrivals hall of Rio’s main international airport holding banners that read “Welcome to Hell,” Agence France-Presse reported.

“Police and firefighters don’t get paid, whoever comes to Rio de Janeiro will not be safe,” the sign said, CNN reported.

“We are here to show citizens and tourists from abroad the realities of Brazil,” said veteran police Officer Alexander Neto, 56. “They’ve been conned and we, too, have been conned. You have to understand there is no public security.”

Can we at least wait until the Puerto Rico check clears the bank before writing one to Rio.

Oh, damn me all to hell.

I throw a hundred babies in the air, and let just one drop, and everybody notices.

What rhymes with “Zika”? I’m stumped.

This can’t be. We are constantly told how places like Brazil are multicultural nirvanas.

“Welcome to Hell”

Violent crime: check.
Polluted water: check.
Close enough.

But the water doesn't flow
It boils with every poison you can think of."

"Rio de Janeiro police officers are warning tourists that they’re on their own this summer as the Brazilian city struggles to cope with rising violent crime ..."

Quite telling about the sort of people who inhabit Rio.
Why people have thought of Rio as a great place
to visit or vacation is beyond my understanding.
It's dangerous and filthy.
To be honest; I've never been there and have no plans
of ever visiting the place.

“Have you tried Liveleak.com?”

I have. The site is chock full of videos showing the lawlessness and abject poverty in Brazil. There are literally hundreds of videos of police killing street thugs, and vice versa.
