The NYT is promoting lawlessness.

Can a Republican president pardon people who have broken environmental laws (according to the EPA) or who have not paid whatever the IRS demands?

The web site of Professor Markowitz is here. Quoting it,

"Peter L. Markowitz is an Associate Clinical Professor of Law at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where he founded and directs the Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic. The clinic focuses on the intersection of immigration and criminal law and on immigration enforcement issues. It provides deportation defense representation to individuals and represents community-based and national advocacy organizations on impact projects. The clinic has been awarded the Daniel Levy Award for outstanding and innovative advocacy in the field of immigration.

Professor Markowitz and his clinic has been responsible for numerous innovations in the field, for example: spearheading the developing of the nation’s first public defender system for detained immigrants, developing the concept of detainer discretion, and initiating the nation’s first full-service in-house immigration unit located in a public defender office."

Pardoning illegal aliens will NOT make them legal; it will only forgive any penalties for entering the country illegally.

They will still have to go through a regular entry process to receive entry documentation.

They would still be liable for back-taxes.

They would still be liable for any identity theft of social security numbers.

They would still have to apply for naturalization.

So someone explain to me how a pardon can be issued to unknown persons, not citizens, who have never been tried, convicted or found guilty of any crime?

Doesn’t there need to be some kind of legal finding of guilt before one can be pardoned?

Seems like its almost saying a president could issue a blanket pardon today of any person who ever shoplifted and got away with it.

Go ahead and pardon them. He can only pardon for past crimes... NOT CRIMES THEY ARE CURRENTLY COMMITTING. Unless I missed something, he hasn’t yet given himself the authority to make everyone a US citizen. Illegal immigrants will still be illegal immigrants one second after he is done signing the pardon.

I'm not a lawyer but I would think there are two problems....millions of illegal immigrants haven't been legally adjudicated and Congress has complete authority over immigration.
