LEXINGTON, SC (WIS-TV) - A town of Lexington business owner says he's being forced to remove 10 flags he placed outside of his business to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.
Bob Michaelis of Michaelis Mattress Company in Lexington says he was asked to remove the patriotic display because it violates a 1999 town ordinance. According to the town ordinance, only three flags that are not duplicates of each other can be displayed in "restricted and intense development districts."
Michaelis, a Marine, says he wanted to "show appreciation to our troops" with the display.
However, the Lexington Police Department sent word to Michaelis about the display and told him to remove the flags.
Meanwhile, Michaelis says he has no intentions of removing the flags at the moment.
We've reached out to the town of Lexington for further information and comments.

Hmmmmm.....a mattress store owner may have ulterior motives for putting out a bunch of flags on a holiday weekend. I’ve seen them pull lots of tricks (Going out of business for 3 years straight, etc.) Can’t see inside his heart tho.
I only fly one flag at my house most of the time.
But on Federal Holidays I line my curb, driveway and porch with additional small American flags. Looks pretty nice because most of the neighbors on my suburban side street do the same thing.
He should go out and buy the biggest American flag he can find, like the ones flown outside Perkins Restaurants. Better yet, get three of them even if they are outrageously expensive! Idiot laws need to be resisted.
I would put up two flags. One USA flag, another banner asking why the Lexington Police Department doesn’t enforce the law against illegal aliens while harassing citizens.
Urge other businesses to do the same. Can’t make them all submit to their demands.
Only problem with that is that the self-righteous, pencil-necked bureaucrat who cited him for displaying more than three flags would then rationalize that that was exactly the outcome that he had demanded.

The flags may offend the 18.7 million immigrants who were encouraged by OBAMA not to pledge allegiance to the American flag and defend our nation?
