"They say it was the roughest campaign ever in the history of Republican politics, but what you do is you go to sleep for a couple of days and you wake up and you honor [the pledge]," Donald Trump said. (AP Photo) Trump unloads on former GOP opponents who refuse to back him

By GABBY MORRONGIELLO (@GABRIELLAHOPE_) • 6/29/16 5:26 PM SHARE TWEET SMSMore Donald Trump railed against several of his Republican primary opponents on Wednesday night for declining to endorse him in the general election, going so far as to suggest "they should never be allowed to run for public office again."

"I have guys out there and if you really think about it, they're really sore losers," Trump told supporters during a campaign rally in Bangor, Maine.

Trump was referring to at least seven GOP presidential hopefuls who signed a loyalty pledge to support their party's presidential nominee and have since declined to do so. Such candidates include former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, businesswoman Carly Fiorina and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

"It was a rough campaign," he conceded. "They say it was the roughest campaign ever in the history of Republican politics, but what you do is you go to sleep for a couple of days and you wake up and you honor [the pledge]."

The presumptive Republican nominee continued, claiming that he considered the pledge to be "legally binding" and assuring his supporters that he would have honored it had Kasich, Cruz or any other GOP candidate clinched the nomination instead.

"There are people I don't like or particularly respect on that stage, but I would have honored it," Trump said. "I wouldn't have gone crazy, yelling it from the loudest building."

Trump himself routinely changed his position on the pledge during the primary, threatening more than once to leave the Republican party and launch an indepedent bid.

"But you know what, we have people who haven't honored the pledge and that's a terrible thing," he told the crowd. "They signed a pledge saying they will abide, they will back the candidate of the party and now they sit back and ... they broke their word."

"In my opinion, they should never be allowed to run for public office again because what they did is disgraceful," he added.

Some of the billionaire's former opponents have said that in addition to declining to endorse Trump, they will not attend next month's GOP convention.

He humiliated them. Rolled over them like a steamroller. He wanted it to leave a mark and it did.

And he just backed up and ran over them again today.

The idea that Cruz will wait until after Trump is nominated to endorse him is hilarious. It’s like Cruz is hoping and praying that somehow the elites, not the voters, will get to pick the nominee. But if worse comes to worst and the DC Cartel fails to override the voters’ choice, then Cruz will endorse Trump.

Where? At the hors d’oeuvres table? It will be too late for Cruz to have a speaking slot; maybe he can endorse Trump in the cloak room?

S0 you base your vote on what you define as ‘vulgar’?
I think the country’s future is more important than your interpretation of social niceties.

My guess is that at some point Cruz will answer a reporter’s question by walking briskly past him and saying something like “I promised to endorse the Republican nominee and I’m a man of my word.”

And that’s the most anyone will get out of him and if anyone in the future says he broke his word he will say no he didn’t, he endorsed him.

That’s just my guess.

Being for Rubio is even WORSE!

Chuckles Schumer had Little Marco doing his bidding in the blink of an eye.

Rubio has been loathed, in Florida, for YEARS and Hillary and Biden and some bum on the corner of any NYC street could beat him in a nonce.

And no, he wouldn't get the "Hispanic vote" anywhere. Nor would he be "up" in ANY poll ANYWHERE !

I said I will vote for Trump.

I won’t donate to him or work for him. Everyone has his own line. My line is that I won’t work for or give money to someone as vulgar as Trump. That’s just my own line. We each have our own.

So apparently Cruz thinks a Senate primary in Colorado is more important than the general election for President?

Strange priorities. I can say if Cruz endorsed anyone for a Senate race in Nevada I would have voted against them. I think our politicians were too smart to ask for his help or endorsement.

Rubio was EXTREMELY vulgar and in an OBSCENE way, during the primaries; yet YOU voted for him!

OTOH, Trump is NOT "vulgar" at all!

You don't understand the meaning of that word !

Banishment to anyone who does not vigorously support Trump. May those who don’t fully and vociferously support Trump have their lives utterly ruined. Damn them, both literally and figuratively.

Fantasywriter (nopardons FYI)

Let’s see what T Ruth has to say about my question about the timing of that pledge.

T Ruth,

Why did they put forth that pledge at the time they did, instead of later on?

You "lived" just WHAT ?

How old were you in '64?

Not only did I LIVE IT, I worked on Mr. Nixon's TWO winning presidential campaigns and went to his Inaugural Balls!

Romney, father and son were/are POS; Nelson...not so much a backstabber and he knew how to run a primary campaign, even though he lost!

At the convention, Cruz will toss back a couple of double scotches, neat, climb atop the punch bowl table, and endorse Trump from that vantage.

Count on it.

Haha.

great
how do you describe what the gop just did this week?
put up phoney bills to make it look like they were for gun control, knowing they would not pass.
Deceit seems to be a worse trait than alleged vulgarity.
But we each have our own ....line
