Brexit and the end of international progressive inevitability

Is it any wonder that citizens of one of the greatest and strongest nations in human history would recoil from an international order that was proving mainly that it could enrich an elite without seeming to lift a finger to preserve the nation’s core values and traditions — the very things that had made it great and strong? Is it any wonder that citizens of other great countries are —wondering what loyalty they owe to that same elite?

And so we launch yet another phase in human history, where what’s old — nations pursuing their own interests — is new again. On one end of the European continent sits Russia, a nation that is flexing its muscles and seeking to reclaim its traditional power. On the other end is Britain, a nation that has reclaimed its independence and now faces an uncertain future defining its new relationship with the world.

Across the ocean, America faces its own crisis. Our technocratic elite has constructed its own self-serving system — one that mirrors the very system that Britain rejected yesterday. Our politics are more uncertain and chaotic than at any time in decades. We can’t predict what will happen. But one thing I do know — history never truly had a “side.” Instead, it is the story of action and reaction, and no outcome is inevitable.

Britain has acted. The world is set to change, and history can’t tell us what’s next.

This man writes about the elite as if he isn’t one of them and wants to continue to be one. This man is who Bill Kristol wanted to run for president. Which is probably why Trump’s position on the correct side of history isn’t discussed.

Ernest. If you have not done so at this point. Perhaps watching
the Brexit movie may be of interest to you. I managed to download one of the
full "brexit Full Movies" at UTUBE site unto my system.

Some quite interesting things where brought out in that movie, regarding how the Brits have been royally screwed over the years by the EU.
Now we are seeing more EU members wanting out.

The movie is a little over one hour long.
Have a great upcoming day. I'm ready to log out of FR and get some sleep.

Potomac cynic

British historian Timothy Garton Ash, lamenting the Brexit vote, wrote in The Guardian. “The unhappy English have delivered a body blow ... to the ideals of international cooperation, liberal order and open societies " To which I reply, "AMEN"

The end of liberal inevitability? No. Here’s why. I thought the Tea Party, the 2010 and 2014 mid-terms, were just that. They weren’t. Why? Because it’s asymmetrical warfare, just like vs the terrorists. The good guys have to win every time; the bad guys only have to win once. They are relentless and never admit defeat. Beat down gay marriage once, the come again with another referendum or court case. Beat down legalized marijuana once, you can be sure they’ll be back on the referendum ballot next time. And once they win, and they will, you can scarcely roll it back, just like roe v wade.
Of course it’s unfair; but that’s the way of it.

Just imagine if Remain had won 52-48.

You’d never hear of the subject again.

I wish this was the end. The majority in favour of Brexit was very slim, and the young (the ones who could be bothered to vote) were overwhelmingly pro-EU. I have a feeling they will cook up an excuse to drag us back in. Here is my prediction. The world establishment will wage a subtle form of economic warfare on Britain and try to create as much chaos and recession as possible in order to persuade us to put the collar and chains back on. I hope that will awaken the younger generation to just how evil the global establishment is and resist the temptation to cave in to their demands, but its looking shaky. We have defied some very powerful forces, and they won’t take ‘no’ as an answer lying down.
