It took less than 48 hours for Marco Rubio to nearly clear the field in what had been a crowded GOP U.S. Senate primary.
One after another, Republican candidates — some who had campaigned for more than a year — dropped out last week rather than face Rubio, one of the GOP’s leading figures nationwide.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio reversed course this week, and is seeking re-election.
The last Republican standing in the way of Rubio claiming the nomination is a brash Manatee County homebuilder who has drawn comparisons to Donald Trump.
Carlos Beruff seems determined to fight on regardless of the overwhelming odds against him.
“I feel he’s personally, organizationally and mentally engaged” in the race, said developer Pat Neal, a long-time Beruff friend.
Some who know Beruff say it’s not surprising he’s staying in the race. One friend described him as “extremely hardheaded.”
Beruff already has spent $4 million of his own money and says he’s prepared to spend much more. His campaign is trying to ride the wave of discontent with political elites by presenting their candidate as an anti-establishment outsider.
“It’s simple,” Beruff said in a statement shortly after the race became a one-on-one match-up with Rubio. “Do you want a senator who puts politics and their own ambition first? Or do you want a senator who puts Florida first?”

Marco Rubio was on Face the Nation this morning, with John Dickerson, (Nancy’s son).
Rubio plans to be the policy assassin for any thing and all things TRUMP.
Rubio is *for* globalism and he said so this morning.
Rubio said those in business manufacturing have legitimate concerns which should be heard.
However, Rubio said it is Congress’ job to take those concerns into account.
Rubio despises TRUMP and is signaling with a primal scream that he is calling all globalists to his side, because they can count on him.
RUBIO is as anti-sovereign America as anyone with breath to speak.
Better a democrat in the US Senate than Rubio, who would be posititioned inside the Republican Party, able to further kill it and build up the UniParty.
Rubio can NOT be the senator. We must help his opponent.
Same for Paul Ryan.
This stuff is up to us, not TRUMP, not our neighbor, but us.
I have this theory that whoever is not in currently is always much better than the guy that is in.

I’ll be voting for Beruff, or whoever runs against Rubio in the primary.

It’s been ruined thanks to all the Northeasetern libs that relocated there from their original Broward ,Dade, and Palm Beach retirement havens .
oh I agree. And I will be voting against Rubio, but Beruff is no prize, imo. Just a new diaper.
Sarasota is loaded with California transplants that began migrating here in 2001. Add that to the Chicago libs and Florida east coast libs that moved and the politics of the county has changed dramatically, and not for the better. I miss my sleepy little beach town.
