Trump shifts immigration plan: No 'mass deportations'
The Hill ^ | June 25, 2016 | Jessie Hellmann

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump appeared to soften his tone on immigration Saturday, saying he wouldn't issue mass deportations if president.

"President Obama has mass deported vast numbers of people — the most ever, and it's never reported. I think people are going to find that I have not only the best policies, but I will have the biggest heart of anybody," Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg Politics Saturday.

Pressed on whether he would issue mass deportations as he has called for in the past, Trump said: "No, I would not call it mass deportations."

"We are going to get rid of a lot of bad dudes who are here. That I can tell you," Trump said.

Throughout his campaign, Trump has promised to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexican border and deport all 11 million people living in the country illegally.

In November, shortly after he launched his presidential campaign, Trump said he would build a "deportation force" to ship those in the country illegally back to their home countries.

"We're going to do it in a very humane fashion. Believe me. I have a bigger heart than you do. We're going to do it in a very human fashion," he said.

The reporters covering Trump have been posting this today as well and are apparently debating whether or not he has gone back on his Muslim ban because he said the ban would apply to people from countries with high instance of terrorism. Hope Hicks confirmed this. I would note that he said that in his foriegn policy speech a couple of weeks ago.

As far as immigration, I am a little confused. Is he still deporting all illegals but not calling it "mass deportations?" Even in November, he said he would do it in a "humane fashion." But itt sounds like by the snippet of the interview today he is saying he will deport the bad people. I guess my question is whether or not everyone here illegally will still be deported. Sometimes this happens with Trump and it is addressed in a statement by Hope Hicks, by Trump in an interview, or a rally, so we'll see.

I think this is another one of those ‘taken out of context’ things...

I haven’t heard him say any different than what he has always said: “OUT”!!!!

If he doesn’t deport every person in this country illegally, and every refugee Obama let in, then there’s realy no point in electing him. It’s over.

I, for one, would absolutely love it if there were mass deportations. I’d even volunteer to drive a bus to the border.

But, I’ll give the man a chance. I’m of the thought that if our laws were actually enforced the way they should be, there’s be no reason for mass deportations because: there would be very little, if any work for them, they wouldn’t get any benefits, they wouldn’t get any citizenship.

Basically, there’d be no reason for them to come here. All the goodies will be taken away.

The Obama administration has instructed immigration authorities to treat “turn-arounds” that occur often at ports of entry as “deportations” to vastly overinflate the numbers.

Deporting those who have committed crimes following arrival would be a good start.

I’d even volunteer to drive a bus to the border.

They can just climb into their lowriders and drive themselves back.

Bingo. Cops walk into a pizzeria with four illegals right there working, order their slices and leave.

Of course they’re gonna stay and keep coming.

We have all always said there would be no need for mass deportations. Enforce the current laws, fine the employers HUGELY and they will not hire illegals, make sure they don’t get welfare (which they are getting now - a tremendous amt) and they will self deport.

We shall just have to wait and see.

“”President Obama has mass deported vast numbers of people — the most ever, and it’s never reported. I think people are going to find that I have not only the best policies, but I will have the biggest heart of anybody,””

This is good strategy by the Trump as it will attract even more Hispanics to the Trump campaign.

Even in his toughest days he was advocating a touch-back amnesty for “the good ones”.

If the actual laws that are on the books right now were enforced, in a few months time vast numbers would self-deport. Trump knows this. “Mass deportations” sounds “mean”.

(Not to me of course.)
