Two dead, several hurt after Fort Worth dance studio shooting

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas authorities say two people are dead and several others injured following a shooting outside a nonprofit dance studio in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth Police Spokesman Daniel Segura says in a statement Saturday that East Division officers responded to reports of a shooting at Studio 74's Fort Worth address. He says arriving officers discovered one victim dead outside the studio. Several others were shot and transported to hospitals.

Segura says one victim died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

No further information was immediately available. An investigation is ongoing.

My mom grew up in a locale where "dance" meant only one thing: polka… and lots of it. This was the real deal, what with the Czech demographics of the place, and as such there was a lot of beer drinking and general merriment to be had. These people all had a gun or two around the house or out in the barn, and they knew how to use same.

So how come that "volatile" mix - dancing, partying, alcohol, hormones and access to firearms - didn't result in mayhem?

Lol...when I visited Wisconsin briefly in college on a road trip, we somehow ended up in a dance hall which was the major activity in the area we ended up staying at. It was all polka, many folks dressed traditionally. It wasn’t the scene I expected but I was fascinated with what felt like a visit to a tradional European dance party. I still remember the dresses.
