The petition demands the Government re-stage the referendum because the winning vote for Leave was less than 60 per cent and was based on a turnout of less than 75 per cent.

Are either or both of those thresholds required? If not, this second referendum proposal is a farce.

I’m not aware of a super-majority requirement for the referendum to pass and 75% voter turnout compares favorably with voter turnout in European countries.
