Draft women? Let's Abolish the Draft
NCRegister ^ | 06/22/2016 | Simcha Fisher

Posted on 06/24/2016 3:58:59 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

Yesterday, the Senate voted to extend the draft to women who turn 18 during or after 2018. Obama has promised to veto such a bill, but there is probably enough support in congress to override a veto...

I opposed allowing women to serve in combat positions. I hold the monstrously retrograde opinion that women are different from men. ... I find myself at a loss to explain why, to those who don't find this truth obvious. It's like explaining why buttered toast smells good, or why bottomless holes are terrifying. What can I say?

I have many female friends who have served honorably in the military,...But requiring women to serve is an entirely different proposition. Women in the military already face a host of problems, which they can overcome with tremendous effort. Imagine increasing their numbers exponentially, and then imagine that most of these women do not want to serve.

[huge snip]

A good many of my friends have crankily observed that this is exactly what women do want. And some women do. ...

But many more women have been struggling to persuade the world that men and women both have rights and responsibilities, and should both be treated with respect . . . but that these rights and responsibilities aren't always the same for all men and for all women.

Men are better suited for combat. Biologically, psychologically, and emotionally, you will find countless more men than women who endure and even thrive in combat roles, and in military roles in general. Anyone who says otherwise is willfully blind. Men and women are not interchangeable. You can squeeze society hard enough to make them pretend that it is true, but it will always be women and children who suffer; and when women and children suffer, the whole world bleeds.

Since the Pretender probably self-identifies as a woman, he probably felt he didn’t have to do so.

If you oppose feminism, then you should support drafting women.

WTF?

Alinsky rule #4: Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.

Feminism says pointing out men and women are different is sexist.

Fine; then make them live up to their own words. No exemptions for women; they have to meet the same standards as men; they have risk being killed or maimed just as men do.

Or, these feminist can eat their words and admit men and women are different.

While I’m opposed to women in combat units, they can’t have it both ways. And, there hasnt been a draft since ‘73(i think). That being said, run this thru the brain housing group; if everyone 18 and above is registered for selective service, doesn’t that meet the “militia” requirement that liberals keep trying to use to take our 2A rights away with? Just asking :)

“What if women get pregnant, through rape or through consensual relationships? A general recently explained that he tends to punish pregnant women soldiers, sometimes with court martial. He was glad to see that the military now provides abortions, because now they can more quickly put themselves back at his disposal as commander. In theory, the military gives women twelve weeks’ leave if they become pregnant. In practice, they are pressured to abort.”

Pretty grim.

Update the Militia Act of 1792 accordingly and enforce.
Watch the Left redefine the 2nd Amendment again, and act like it’s always been that way.

True that about the libd, but got to fight them with their own words and put them back on their heels fighting a defense instead of waging an offense.

Override a veto? This is where they make their stand against Obama? Seriously?

You have a kind of a cut off your nose to spite your face attitude about this issue. Sorry, not going to put our women through this just to satisfy your hatred of feminists.

Either everyone iseligiblefortedraft, or get rid of it for everyone.

I wish there hadn't been a draft in the 60s. I had to go to Vietnam because of it. I am still a bit put off by that fact. Vietnam was the utter armpit of the world. I hated every minute of it. When the freedom bird lifted off, a huge cheer went up. I joined in.

As I understand it, it's not a matter of being de-facto drafted (conscripted into the Army) at this point. It's a matter of being required to register for the draft upon turning 18.

If you hear any more details, please post them.

I will, too.

And yet there is a segment of the female population, along with a bunch of men who are hell bent on destroying the US military, who demand that women serve in combat roles.

My big issue is the demand that feminists get all of the privileges but none of the responsibilities. It is not sustainable - it will breed even more contempt on the part of those who have to shoulder the responsibilities.

I am neither bitter, nor divorced, nor will I curse or drop the F bomb.

I disagree that women can be allowed into combat without also having to register for the draft.

We agree that women have no place in combat arms roles in the military - not due to any political viewpoint, but because women do not perform in the same area code as men (a generality, but I believe it is well accepted and also happens to be true).

We also agree that women should not be drafted.

However, I very strongly disagree that if women as allowed into combat arms roles that they should still be shielded from registering for the draft. There is a supreme court case, IIRC, that cites women’s non-combat restrictions as the explicit reason why they do not have to register. Those restrictions are now lifted, and therefore so should the relief from draft registration.

Note that I do not say I support women being drafted - only that this nation cannot afford any more egregious examples of double standards. Either the law is applied equally, or it cannot be applied at all.

As for the argument that the draft registration should be ended... I would entertain a reasoned discussion on the subject, but the reasons included in this article are not reasoned. To do away with the draft, absent a well informed debate on the potential national security issues, especially when the reason behind it is to prevent the nation from perceiving the harm done by the feminists and other liberals in the name of a false equality, is foolhardy at best.

If you shield the populace from the repercussions of the decisions made by the political asses in DC, then the populace will never perceive the danger represented by those DC idiots.

Just my opinion, and presented as politely as I could without watering down the points I have tried to make.

Well, you certainly put over your case with a high degree of civility. I salute you! I, myself, believe in ‘double standards’ when it comes to men and women. Women bear the children, men do the protecting. Simple as that.

Revenge against American women because of the 150,000 members of NOW does not an argument make. Not that you were making that argument but as you can see if you check all the many threads we’ve had on the subject, it is a unfunny running joke told by angry men who’ve either had to pay for dinner on the first date or had to pay alimony.
