Britain’s decision to quit the European Union could send damaging shockwaves through the bedrock Anglo-American “special relationship,” raising questions about London’s willingness and ability to back U.S.-led efforts in global crises ranging from the Middle East to Ukraine.

The loss of the strongest pro-U.S. voice within the 28-nation bloc, as a result of the “Brexit” referendum, threatens to weaken Washington’s influence in European policymaking and embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin to further challenge the West, analysts and former diplomats say.

The British referendum on Thursday, widely seen as reflecting an increasingly nationalistic and inward-looking public, also risks the splintering of the United Kingdom itself, which could further reduce its role and stature in world affairs

We’ve had a special relationship with the UK since before the EU, IMO.

Just visited the very spot where this painting took place. The narrowest part of the river is where he crossed. We then followed Washington’s route up through Trenton. One of the prettiest places in the northeast.

I hope one of the first things President Trump takes office is to get the bust of Winston Churchill back.

I think they are referring to the relationship with Zero and having a wet dream that the entire situation will deteriorate. IMO the US public will support GB and not give a fig what Zero and his Klan thinks.

They should be cutting the EU outlook. Percentage wise, the FTSE had a smaller drop than the rest of the EU, last time I looked.

Threatens, could possibly, maybe, might, if, perhaps, may, assuming potential causes and effects. Not will or even probably. News is now editorial speculation not much better than fortune telling.

I hope one of the first things President Trump takes office is to get the bust of Winston Churchill back.

It was given to the American people with the President in charge of safe-keeping it.

I believe the return happened in the same time frame as 0's partner saying he/she was proud to be an American "for the first time".

Obama has been doing nothing but undermine the “special relationship”. His first act was to send Winston Churchill’s bust back to the UK! His latest was to go to England and threaten people to vote to stay in the EU! Has any other President done more to undermine the relationship?

I think he does too. I just wonder if his hatred of Churchhill, is related to colonialism?
