HONOLULU – Gov. David Ige signed SB 2954 (ACT 108) which authorizes county police departments in Hawai‘i to enroll firearms applicants and individuals registering their firearms, in a criminal record monitoring service.
The system, also known as the “Rap Back” system, is a service of the Federal Bureau of Investigation that provides continuous criminal record monitoring for authorized government agencies such as law enforcement agencies. The service notifies the agencies when a firearm owner is arrested for a criminal offense anywhere in the country. This will allow county police departments in Hawai‘i to evaluate whether the firearm owner may continue to legally possess and own firearms. The law also authorizes the Hawai‘i Criminal Justice Data Center to access firearm registration data.
“This is about our community’s safety and responsible gun ownership. This system will better enable our law enforcement agencies to ensure the security of all Hawai‘i residents and visitors to our islands. This bill has undergone a rigorous legal review process by our Attorney General’s office and we have determined that it is our responsibility to approve this measure for the sake of our children and families,” said Gov. David Ige.

I would like to know WHY the good Governor does address this , while he is signing into law all these new firearms restrictive laws ;
How is that Federal Law clearly specifies that anyone that ‘ uses or is addicted to marijuana or any other controlled substance dangerous drugs , is prohibited from owning , possessing or registering a firearm ” . Yet here in Hawaii , where so-called medical marijuana laws allow medical MJ permits to be handed out for almost the slightest complaint , and where many of these so-called legal medical MJ permit holders are also REGISTERED ( or unregistered ) firearms owners , why are they not specifically addressed and prohibited, from owning or possessing firearms here in Hawaii ? How is it that the Hawai‘i Criminal Justice Data Center does not cross reference with the medical marijuana permit holder data base to determine whom these Federally disallowed people are ?
Inquiring minds want to know …..
That means, to require every purchaser to enoll in a self-incriminating list, or be a criminal if they have gained . possession of a firearm if they do not, eh?

I believe in state’s rights, but I do not believe they give the states the power to nullify U. S. Constitutional amendments.

another not well known fact (here) is that if you apply for a permit to acquire a firearm and , for any reason , your acquisition status has changed , and you are somehow not allowed the permit to acquire , you are then required by law to turn in and and all firearms AND ammunition that you might have previously acquired and legally own. All without any compensation . If you do not surrender these items then you are also subject to seizure of the same . It’s a real craps shoot ....

Are the criminals that have illegal guns going to be in this registry?
In investigating crimes, will the police even bother to spend time looking for criminals, or will they just go around questioning law abiding gun owners because they’re the easiest to find?
Lastly, up until now, how difficult has it been to legally buy & own a firearm?
Innocent citizens added to a list which provides continuous criminal monitoring??

if you qualify with the permit to acquire process and do not have any TRO’s against you or mental issues in your background check history , and not a convicted felon ; no problem .
