Mayor of London response to European Union referendum result

24 June 2016

.

.

Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said:

"I believe that Britain is better off within the European Union, but the British people have clearly spoken today, and their democratic will must now be fulfilled.

"I would like to praise David Cameron for the dignified way he has reacted to the message sent by the British people in his words at Downing Street today. I agree with the Prime Minister that Britain can survive and prosper outside the European Union.

"I want to send a clear message to the British people and to businesses and investors around the world this morning - there is no need to panic.

"I still believe that our country is better off within the European Union, but there is no doubt that London will continue to be the successful city it is today. Our city and our country will continue to be the best place in the world to do business. And we will continue to look outwards and trade and engage with the entire world - including the European Union.

"Although we will be outside the EU, it is crucial that we remain part of the single market. Leaving the single market of 500 million people - with its free-trade benefits - would be a mistake. I will be pushing the Government to ensure this is the cornerstone of the negotiations with the EU. It is crucial that London has a voice at the table during those renegotiations, alongside Scotland and Northern Ireland.

"We all have a responsibility to now seek to heal the divisions that have emerged throughout this campaign - and to focus on that which unites us, rather than that which divides us."

"I want to send a particular message to the almost one million Europeans living in London, who make a huge contribution to our city - working hard, paying taxes and contributing to our civic and cultural life. You are welcome here. We value the enormous contribution you make to our city and that will not change as a result of this referendum."

I want to send a clear message to every European resident living in London - you are very welcome here. As a city, we are grateful for the enormous contribution you make, and that will not change as a result of this referendum.
There are nearly one million European citizens living in London today, and they bring huge benefits to our city - working hard, paying taxes, working in our public services and contributing to our civic and cultural life.
We all have a responsibility to now seek to heal the divisions that have emerged throughout this campaign - and to focus on what unites us, rather than that which divides us.”

“africans, asians, and middle easterners.”

This is how the UK describes Muslims. They never say middle eastern.. they say Asian or African.

the UK has a long, long road to walk to recovery. More than we do, I fear. I hope they approach a post-Obama America for more partnerships. (Post-Obama = President Trump)

I support the will of the people, but I still want us to be bound by the E. U. economic zone.

This guy is a master of subterfuge.

Next!

I’ve often said that America WANTS Trump. We want away from Obama. We want away from democrats. It’s always been a fraud to put a dem in the white house since Carter.

But they rig shit. They treat us like the enemy. They are out only to rule us - not grow us as a country.

I’ve said that a US vote will NEVER put anyone but Hillary in the office. Because they are frauds, criminals and villains.

Now I have this thought going... that we CAN do it. It’s strange. It’s going to be serious egg on my face for saying that the world is so corrupt only to learn (Happily) that I was wrong the whole time.

If Trump wins, and I mean this literally, my life will change for the better. I’ll be happy again. Nothing to do with the man himself - but everything to do with the idea that I’ve been wrong for more than 18 years.

I can’t believe his speech is decent. I was expecting some overly dramatic tantrum.

From your comment to me on the deleted thread:

It's interesting that Obama is getting at least some of the credit as the cause of the BrExit success.

I also find it interesting that nobody is giving Trump credit yet. I say this, because of the aspirations of citizens who identify with the aspirations of the citizens of other nations.

Trump has talked about making the U. S. great again, the topic of our failed leadership, and the evils of globalism.

He made sound immigration a cornerstone of this.

It doesn't take a person with a 175 IQ to figure out that there are problems with immigration in all the advanced nations. Citizens don't want to see their homeland destroyed.

I think Trump had something to do with BrExit winning.

Kudos to him and those who recognized the man who has proven his ability to not only think of what is best for the U. S., but what is best for any nation, globally.

Sovereignty, self-rule, it's important. Who could have seen that coming? LOL

He’s a human rights lawyer. What collection of idiots puts a human rights lawyer in charge of an international financial center? It’s got to suck being on the Metropolitan police Force with this guy as mayor. Might as well be a Colin Baltimore.
