DALLAS — Fire officials say more than 30 people attending a Tony Robbins event in Dallas have been treated for burns after the motivational speaker encouraged them to walk on hot coals.
Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans says five people were taken to a hospital Thursday night and that emergency personnel treated the others at the scene for burns to their feet and lower extremities.
The hot coals were spread outside the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center as part of a Robbins seminar called "Unleash the Power Within." The event continues through Sunday.
Representatives for Robbins didn't immediately return messages Friday.

If enough people transit the hot coals, the "cold" tops of the coals will get smashed into the actually hot, hot coals and everyone thereafter will get burned, even those with the peace of Buddha.

The lawsuit was great publicity for McDonalds and their coffee. Paying the plaintiff was less expensive than an ad campaign for their coffee. And the news story got more attention than an ad campaign would.
um... the other 29 people were too stupid to not do it after the first on burned themselves?

Determination has limits

No, it’s a risk when the stupid woman sticks the coffee BETWEEN HER KNEES while sitting in the front seat of a (stopped) car and tries to take the lid off by clumsily pulling the far side of the lid TOWARDS her (for some dumb reason). The sweatpants she was wearing at the time absorbed the coffee and this is mainly what caused the injuries to be more severe than they would have otherwise been.
And the $20,000 was what she initially offered to SETTLE for, it was not what she sued for.

Signing a waiver does not magically eliminate the prospect of a successful lawsuit. As my sister explained to me while going through law school, “You can’t sign away your rights.” Like everything after the legal profession gets done with it, the details are complex. The law may vary from state to state. Perhaps an attorney with better knowledge can explain further, but signing a waiver does not give the protected party a pass to do anything they want to someone who’s signed.
