Wood-fired pizza is bad for the environment, according to science erwrer43535dfs34.jpg

Is Brazil's love of authentic wood-fired pizza wrecking havoc on the environment? (iStock)

If you love wood-fired pizza or wood-smoked barbecue, then go outside right now and peel that “Go Green” bumper sticker off your Prius. Science says your favorite foods may be major causes of environment pollution.

A study conducted by 10 air pollution experts from seven universities has found that burning wood to cook your trendy kale-and-feta pie or your old-fashioned Texas brisket is polluting the air we breathe.

The collaborative study, whose findings have been published in the journal Atmospheric Environment, was conducted in the fifth largest metropolitan area in the world: Sao Paulo, Brazil, home to 21 million people, 7 million road vehicles and one very dangerous air pollution problem.

I’m going to smoke 3 racks of St Louis style ribs, a huge brisket, and two pork shoulders Saturday. Just for the hell of it I’m also going to try out my new fire pit that night even though it’s supposed to be 112 this weekend.

I have become convinced there is only one thing on this Earth that is bad for my environment, and that’s Democrats.

You know what is also bad for the environment?

Huge out of control forest fires caused by the idiocy of the environmental police who stop ALL logging and allow huge tinderboxes to build up until it gets sparked and then all it all goes up at once.

You know instead of controlled burns and the “farming” of the forest via selective logging and proper forest management...

If the lefty environment retards would STOP and allow forest to be managed or farmed properly, we could have all the wood fired pizza we wants and the forests in general would be far healthier.

I blame the idiot myth of the “old growth forest” to cause this dreadful unintended consequences. If you took a 100 mile by 100 forest and cut tiny strips out of it each year not exceeding a total of 1 mile each year, and performed controlled burns to encourage new forest growth in these strips, the critters and trees would be just fine.

But never cutting it would lead to a giant conflagration that would burn the whole damned thing down the first time lighting struck a dead tree...

We here in the "Land of the (eroding) Free" have been under notice (2015) that the benevolent EPA is striving to help us reduce the pollution effect of our outdoor grills. While the following specifies pollution from dripping grease, I'm sure that they will be happy to add wood-burning pollution to this study. Just envision a honking big catalytic converter rising from your Weber Kettle! Tailgating will never be the same!

Get ready to slap some catalytic converters on BBQs
"The Environmental Protection Agency has its eyes on pollution from backyard barbecues. The agency announced that it is funding a University of California project to limit emissions resulting in grease drippings with a special tray to catch them and a "catalytic" filtration system. The $15,000 project has the "potential for global application," said the school."

....a filter and fan are proposed for installation. "The secondary air filtration system is composed of a single pipe duct system which contains a specialized metal filter, a metal fan blade, a drive shaft, and an accompanying power system with either a motorized or manual method. This system can be powered by either an exterior electric motor with a chain-driven drive shaft, directly spinning the fan blade, or a hand-powered crank," said the project write-up.

I’m building an outdoor pit that will take a dozen 10 x 18” red oak logs to pull off a several hour long smoke.

My fondest desire is that the wind blows towards my neighbors whenever I fire it up.

First they come for your wood fired oven...next it will be your campfire.

Nice way to drive up the price of a cheap $50 grill to $150.

It must be hard to be a liberal.

Just knowing that somewhere, somehow, someone is enjoying something. And feeling the need to snuff it out.

Or, at least tax and regulate it.

Yesterday, I drove a few libs (on my alumni chat room) into conniption fits with the following question:

Why is our collective judgment so fallible on an issue like the death penalty, but so infallible on the subject of global warming/climate change?
