RC platforms are “drones.”
They are the same.
There have been fixed and rotor-wing RC platforms forever and no big deal.
In 1968 a classmate of mine in the eight grade attached a camera to his RC platform and took pictures. Low quality at first but got better. . .and he also flew RC helicopters (a “drone”) with a camera, also.
It is the operator not the platform.
Sounds a lot like firearms. . . it is the trigger-puller not the firearm that does the damage. Same thing.
Too many people forget we had these things flying around forever and way too many advocate outlawing all UAVs, when it is a matter of some regulation and a lot of emphasis on responsible behavior.
Currently, there are a plethora of agencies and regulatory bodies worldwide that are trying to bring order to the chaos, to establish a uniform, national and international UAV standard. We should be encouraging such actions rather than condemn the technology and “ban” it.
The introduction of UAVs into the National Airspace (NAS) is challenging. Government, civil, industry and military UAV proponents are eager partners in developing and implementing operationally sound UAV practices. That said, close coordination to balance civil liberties against the “right to flight” is essential. Couple that with certification standards for UAV operators, UAVs can operate safely and respect civil liberties of all.
